The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.

Job overview

The Business Manager will work across the East IHC Pharmacy & Medicines Management Service as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the planning, performance and accountability agendas across the senior team and its services, and deputising for members of the Senior Leadership Teams as required.

This post-holder will manage a range of improvement projects and will coordinate and build relationships across the Health Community and Corporate teams, as well as wider partners. Maintaining a business view across all services in the East IHC Pharmacy Services ensuring consistency and collaboration across and advising and supporting senior managers where required.

The role will take a lead in development of integrated planning for East IHC Pharmacy & Medicines Management ensuring alignment to National, Organisational and local priorities, as well as ensuring mechanisms are in place to effectively monitor and report against delivery of the operational plan.

Main duties of the job

Operational Management

Work as part of the East IHC Pharmacy & Medicines Senior Management Team to ensure the delivery of operational and performance targets.

Leadership & Communication

Be an effective leader motivating staff within the team and supporting the Senior Leadership Team.

Planning, Performance, Organisation and Project Management

Work with services to develop and produce monthly and annual performance reports in conjunction Service Leads and the Business and Planning Manager, and lead on any Health Community Reports as required, working closely with corporate services.

Finance

To be proactive in controlling expenditure within own budgetary responsibility and to be responsible for effective budget management for area of responsibility.

Service Improvement, Planning & Modernisation

To research and benchmark against national standards and neighbouring Health Boards to recommend and influence sustainable service improvements to the Senior Management Team.

Information and Performance Monitoring

Lead the monitoring and performance management of Pharmacy & Medicines Management services.

Human Resources / Workforce & Development

Managerial responsibility for all administrative, secretarial and clerical staff within the service and Line Management responsibility for other staff members / departments as delegated by the operational Manager.

Quallifications

Essential criteria

  • Management or professional qualification at postgraduate level or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • ILM management level 4 or equivalent qualification / level of work experience and knowledge. Commitment to achieve within 2 years if not held.
  • Prince 2 practitioner, similar qualification, or equivalent level work experience and knowledge. Willingness to achieve in 2 years if not held.
  • In-depth knowledge across a wide range of Health Board services, systems and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of the NHS and the issues facing it
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of information systems

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience working within NHS setting.
  • Experience of managing successful change across professional boundaries, building and maintain relationships.
  • Able to provide examples of real progress against key objectives in the development and delivery of services within the Acute/Community sector Multi-agency working at strategic level
  • Leadership and major change management
  • Experience of developing business plans and business cases which reflect / support corporate objectives
  • Successful track record with evidence of business and operational planning
  • Experience of significant resource management - financial, human and capital.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and at Director level with external organisations
  • Sound financial management.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and convey highly complex information tailored to its audience.
  • IT literate covering multiple software packages - Office 365 package, Teams (email, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation and clinical information systems.)

  • Political awareness
