Job Title-Business Integrity Manager, GB

Join us to create a career worth celebrating.

About the Function:

We're legal experts, understanding the complex laws that surround our business and our much-loved brands. Our Legal team are responsible for a range of legal challenges, from Corporate and Intellectual Property to Merger & Acquisitions and Compliance.

We're always seeking new and creative ways to take on the evolving challenges that today's commercial world presents. Our talented colleagues around the world are not just outstanding lawyers but also brilliant communicators and advisors. Whatever your skill as a lawyer, your distinct and valuable perspective will be celebrated and nurtured in our inclusive culture.

About the role:

The Business Integrity Programme is an internal element of Diageo's overall governance and risk management activity. The programme is focused on bringing to life our overall performance ambition and must also meet, at a minimum, the best practice standards benchmarked against UK, US and local legislation. This includes maintaining and embedding our Code of Business Conduct (the Code) and an appropriate framework of policies and standards that support the Code; developing appropriate principles-based engagement and ensuring delivery of training to support the application of the Code and policies; investigating and responding to potential breaches of the Code and policies; assessing how to minimise compliance risks; and ensuring employees are aware of and feel comfortable using our SpeakUp whistleblowing channels.

Ethical behaviour ('doing business the right way') is increasingly synonymous with a company's overall sustainability, which makes it an essential component of corporate governance. A breakdown or reduction in focus on this component could have serious legal, financial and/or reputational consequences for Diageo.

You will act as business partner to the head of the business unit or function and its executive team to help them own, drive and manage their accountabilities related to 'doing business in the right way'. You will act as second line of defense to your market, overseeing risk indicators and potential red flags; looking for insights and root causes for breaches; as well as advising on and coordinating interventions to mitigate risks.

Role Responsibilities:

Functional:

  • Influence and advise senior partners to maintain a strong tone-at-the-top, and reinforce accountability and awareness of the Business Integrity agenda.
  • Shape the market's/function's culture of integrity, which includes proactive risk identification and developing plans to effectively embed our Code and policies through tailored engagement interventions.
  • Act as trusted advisor across all levels of the organisation to drive compliant behavior and provide decision support on controls, risk and compliance matters.
  • In partnership with Global BI and the Learning & Development team, ensure proper delivery of risk-based training programme on our Code, policies and standards, and monitor effectiveness of the same.
  • Oversee the market's/function's breach management process (including publicising SpeakUp channels, supporting investigations as assigned, undertaking remediation management, and evaluating the adequacy/consistency of breach consequences) and conduct a 'root cause analysis' to inform 'lessons learned' communications / engagement as needed.
  • Facilitate risk management activities such as the consolidation of KRIs, coordinate periodic governance forums (i.e. RMCs), and oversee automatic monitoring / analytics to enable simplified and proactive management of risk.
  • Use data related to compliance and the insights from such data to enable timely actions.
  • Facilitate market's/function's governance (compliance, risk, controls), such as the tracking and reporting of remediations for identified deficiencies within agreed upon time periods, and supporting submissions to the ARC and FAC.
  • Collaborate with Global Controls Assurance (GCA) team in annual mapping of controls owners to help identify if owners have changed since prior year.
  • Advise GCA as to the market's/function's unique risks, if any, for example, by sharing risk-based inputs on non-SOX scoping (as SOX scoping is fully handled by GCA) and the controls training agenda (as proposed and provided by GCA).
  • Inform relevant collaborators as to impact of new regulations related to compliance and lead business change projects to embed same in the market or function.

Experience / skills required:

  • Demonstrated, sustained experience in compliance and ethics, governance, risk management, investigations, controls. Audit and/or legal experience is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • High level of personal integrity
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain genuine relationships based on mutual trust and respect
  • Cutting through ambiguity and complexity, a demonstrated ability to lead, drive and embed change across fast-paced and large multi layered matrix organizations
  • Successful management of senior collaborators at all levels, and proven ability to hold others to account, resulting in strong and positive outcomes
  • Great coach and ability to develop high impact, inspirational leader(s)
  • Demonstrated brilliance in execution to impeccably high standards and deep personal accountability for great performance
  • Experience of working with key collaborators, whether directly or indirectly
  • Experience working across multiple countries/geographies/cultures
