Business Development Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic Marketing & Business Development professional to join our International Retail & Consumer Sector Group on a 9 month fixed-term contract, reporting to the Head of Business Development (Global Sectors) and the Retail & Consumer Head of Sector, to drive forward their MBD activities. This position will also support two closely aligned practice groups, namely Franchising & Distribution and Business-to-Consumer.

Our International Retail & Consumer group is made up of more than 500 lawyers across Europe, the Middle East and APAC, with expertise across a broad range of practice areas. This allows us to provide a one-stop-shop for businesses involved in the manufacture, supply, distribution and sale of consumer goods and services. We support some of the world's best-known brands operating in a variety of consumer-facing industries, including Food & Beverage; Luxury, Fashion & Retail; and Hotels, Hospitality & Leisure.

You will get great on the job training and experience, as part of our high functioning and experienced central Business Development team with exposure to strategic client account management and to the emerging field of Legal Sales. You will be eligible for professional training courses offered by our external training partners and our internal Learning and Development team. You will work with stakeholders at all levels across our international firm. Key Responsibilities

  • Managing highly competitive bids and tenders, working collaboratively with fee earners and the wider MBD team to create winning propositions, using our bids platform Loopio.
  • Developing and implementing BD strategy for the group alongside the Retail & Consumer Sector Group.
  • Providing actionable intelligence via our market and data analytics resources.
  • Developing and managing associated campaigns and targeting initiatives.
  • Drafting BD content for multiple platforms.
  • Line management of the BD Coordinator for Retail & Consumer (and Competition)
  • Supporting the management of the MBD budget, including provision of advice regarding the value and opportunity cost of initiatives.
  • Developing and maintaining key MBD-related infrastructure, including our deal & credentials databases, pitching templates, CRM (contact management and opportunity tracking), the intranet, microsites and web pages.

What you'll bring

  • Previous experience working within a professional services setting, along with direct engagement with partners and principal stakeholders, would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including experience of/an interest in the key legal and commercial issues affecting the practice/sector groups.
  • Exposure to the full spectrum of MBD activities, specifically business development experience and events experience would be a plus!
  • Willingness to learn to use new tools and AI-powered legal technology to improve efficiency and workflow processes
  • Strong writing skills, editing ability and proficiency in MS applications including Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, experience with other platforms like InDesign/Salesforce etc. would be a bonus.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of social media's benefits and application.
