Salary: circa GBP 65,000 depending on experience

Location: Canary Wharf

WFH policy: Employees are required to attend the office 2 days/week

Role Summary:The Business Development team has a central role in LCCC's growth strategy, advising government on its selection and design of new schemes to mobilise private sector investment and overcome fundamental barriers to achieving Net Zero.

The team also advises the company's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board on the risks and opportunities of taking on new delivery body roles from government.

The team was created to increase options for LCCC to deliver new schemes in the future, with examples of potential new schemes including hydrogen transport, hydrogen storage, long duration energy storage, and Sustainable Aviation Fuels, to name a few.

The role holder will manage a team, responsible for undertaking all necessary strategic and operational impact assessments to allow LCCC to determine whether it should agree to take on any new roles. In addition, the team will be responsible for horizon scanning of the wider energy landscape, and production of strategic assessments detailing future growth areas for the business. This will include the development of a business development strategy focused on organic growth as well as acceleration and deceleration opportunities based on the strategic appetite of the business.
The team is also responsible for working closely with the business in forming company positions on key topics and supporting the internal understanding of policy intent that underpins the schemes. In addition, the role holder and team will work closely with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (as well as broader government departments) and act as the first point of contact when new schemes are requested for LCCC to consider.
All members are expected to be agile and both able and willing to support each other in the delivery of the team's overall responsibilities.

This is a high-profile role within the business, that is responsible for leading the growth arm of LCCC. The role will report to the Head of Policy, Regulation & Development which resides within the Strategy & Development Directorate. Within the Directorate, the role holder will work in close collaboration with the Policy & Strategy teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee (and in some cases lead) all necessary assessments to enable SLT and LCCC Board approvals for all new potential delivery body roles where government expects to ask LCCC to be the delivery body;
  • Drive forward improvement initiatives in the current impact assessment and governance process;
  • Distil and communicate relevant points from complex information to the wider team and business, to ensure wider capability is developed across the growing business.
  • Develop and manage relationships with government policymakers, other key public sector stakeholders and industry partners.
  • Develop and manage relationships with internal colleagues to ensure all strategic and operational impact assessments consider the views from across all disciplines of the company.
  • Undertake longer-term horizon-scanning of energy and related sectors, identifying opportunities for the business; and
  • Develop understanding and knowledge of new market developments and provide briefings to the business as appropriate.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • At least 5 years of carrying out strategic and operational impact assessments of risks and opportunities for companies or government for major investments or initiatives;
  • Experience of managing and leading a high performing team.
  • Delivering and managing projects to time, cost and quality with appropriate controls and governance;
  • Ability to manage a fast paced pipeline of opportunities in accordance with multiple deadlines across multiple different opportunities;
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal and written), able to communicate complex ideas effectively to senior leaders;
  • Ability to influence and build positive internal and external working relationships across different teams and organisations;
  • Active listener that looks to understand others concerns and incorporate their viewpoints;
  • Well-developed qualitative and quantitative research skills with the ability to extract and analyse relevant information to make sound judgements;
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, ideally within the public and utilities sector;

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience of the Net Zero investment challenge
  • Knowledge of relevant Government policies likely to impact on the electricity and decarbonisation sectors and wider energy landscape.
  • Client facing or consultancy experience
  • Experience of working with government or regulators
  • Experience of leading and managing successful teams
