Building Information Manager (BIM), Middle Mile & BIM
DESCRIPTION
We are Amazon's EMEA BIM & Digitalization team, and we are responsible for the digital design and construction of Amazon's EMEA building infrastructure such as Fulfillment Centers, Cross Dock buildings, Middle Mile last mile delivery stations. We want to be Earths most customer-centric company, and our team lives up to this promise to our internal customers.
We are now looking for an innovative Building Information Manager (BIM) to be part of the EMEA Middle Mile & BIM team in its development and implementation of international-wide BIM/VDC standards and technology.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and has a deep passion for developing and implementing innovative BIM workflows across a large team and secures Amazon high quality standards.
The candidate will be expected to engage with other Amazon stakeholder teams, including Amazon Operations Engineering, Amazon Robotics, Amazon Startup, and Real Estate and work backwards from their needs to ensure BIM supports our customers expectations. A BIM manager in Amazon steers numerous external stakeholders such as designers, developers and contractors. Some of the key tactical duties of the role include Model Quality Audits, Design Development Coordination, Clash Detection Audits across the entire building lifespan. Project management, training skillset, time management and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
The role will be based in EMEA with up to 50% of time on job travel, either domestically or to other EMEA countries.
Key job responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of BIM/VDC standards, training and execution across large scale buildings throughout new executions and retrofit works.
- Steer General Contractors, internal and external stakeholders on BIM best practices in alignment with Industry standards.
- Work closely with Architect/Developer/GC BIM/VDC leads to maintain consistency across projects, coordinate alternate approaches as project needs change
- Support our BIM research and development (R+D) team by means of lessons learned or continuous improvement.
- Support project design development and quality control by leading model coordination sessions with internal and external BIM/VDC teams
- Shape scalable practices to provide teams support, training and shadowing, as needed
- Actively propose the improvement of employers- BIM/VDC standards, processes and tools
- Ability to integrate Revit and Design Authoring technologies with applications such as construction project management, cost estimation and asset management tools (CMMS, BMS)
- Oversee and secure compliance of current team-wide technology to Amazon Data Policies
- Serve as point-of-contact and manage relationship with BIM software vendors to ensure full support for team technologies
A day in the life
A BIM manager within our BIM&Digitalization team balances strategy, collaboration, and adaptability. They coordinate with architects, contractors, and stakeholders to align on project goals, resolve model conflicts, and ensure consistency across workflows. A significant part of their day involves self-management and prioritization-evaluating project needs, determining where to focus efforts, and adapting to evolving business priorities. They provide hands-on guidance, training teams, and shadowing processes to maximize quality. They constantly review tools and workflows, identifying opportunities for improvement while collaborating with R&D and software developers to drive innovation. By staying agile, they align BIM/VDC practices with the changing needs of the business.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management or Engineering, or a related field
- Experience providing implementation, training and support in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks/Solibri and BIM 360 (or similar CDE)
- Experienced in federating and coordinating BIM model updates, running clash detection on revised components, creating libraries and communicating results to internal and external stakeholders
- Experienced managing VR/AR software
- Understanding of Corporate Data Policies.
- Knowledge of primary building systems on industrial projects- foundations, primary building structure and walls, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, fire protection, specialty systems, conveying systems and interior finishes) and the sequence of assembly for each •
- Knowledge of common building materials-concrete, structural steel, masonry, miscellaneous metals, stairs, roofing and finishes-including the typical detailing and the sequence of assembly for each •
- Fluent in English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- HND/HNC in BIM management or BIM Information Management. •
- Proven ability to create and manage complex commercial and industrial construction projects within Revit, Navisworks/Solibri, BIM360/or similar CDE, AutoCAD, and other supporting programs •
- Experienced in leading online meetings and training sessions across a remote project team using platforms such as GoTo Meeting, Zoom and/or Chime •
- Cost Management or Quantity surveying experience, BIM related construction costing •
- Proven track record of effectively working with and/or managing teams remotely •
- The ability to work effectively in an extremely fast paced, ambiguous environment •
- The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management and problem solving skills •
- Proven track record of team-wide leadership, owning team processes start to finish and taking ownership for team support and performance •
- Proactive and flexible attitude, willingness to take an "all hands on deck" approach •
- Work experience within field execution, i.e. with General Contractors
- French, German, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
