Job overview

This post will provide a dynamic, driven individual with an exciting opportunity to join an innovative team that works towards improving people's lives through high quality workforce development programmes. A passion for mental health education and improving our population's health is essential.

The post holder will, as a member of the Maudsley Learning Senior Leadership team, support our bid writing, grant winning, and subsequent project management activities. It offers an opportunity to lead our team in winning and managing exciting new projects to improve people's mental health.

As part of a dedicated commercial education and workforce development team the post holder will develop excellent relationships with stakeholders internally and externally to leverage the expertise in our organisation and partnerships to win new grants. Outstanding written communication skills and the ability to rapidly digest information, create, and present compelling narratives are essential.

The post holder will work closely with the Business Development Team to lead bid and grant writing activities, working across other Maudsley Learning and SLaM teams. Our G&T programme seeks to deliver on Maudsley Learning's strategy, pursuing opportunities to increase our impact and grow in priority areas of interest.

Main duties of the job

The primary objectives of the role are to:

  1. Provide strategic oversight and development of the Grants and Tenders (G&T) revenue stream to meet financial growth targets year on year.
  1. Manage effective workflow processes of G&T to increase efficiency and capacity working across all Maudsley Learning teams.
  1. Engage and manage key senior stakeholders, partners, and commissioners as part of a consistent bid management process.
  1. Lead a routine scoping process to identify eligible high value multiyear bid and grant opportunities, nationally and internationally.
  1. Develop outstanding bids and proposals that leverage SLaM and Maudsley Learning's expertise
  1. Support project initiation and implementation for successful bids.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main duties of the post holder will be to:

  • Lead an efficient and agile bid management process, working flexibly across all the Maudsley team to meet tight deadlines to grow the innovative programmes that complement and expand current activities.
  • Provide effective line management of the G&T team to support individuals and enable the team to thrive.
  • Be responsible for growing quarterly and annual revenue targets.
  • Provide strategic management of G&T, including continuous development and future expansion of the team.
  • Provide strategic departmental leadership, working closely with the Senior Management team to grow various product pipelines, feeding into the digital and international strategy to grow training and education and consultancy services for Maudsley Learning.
  • Provide regular performance management reports to Directors and the Managing Director including analysis of trends around feedback, market developments and horizon scanning.
  • Manage and build relationships with senior level external stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Lead on creating and maintaining a process of routine scoping for opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director and other Directors within Maudsley Learning to support income generation activities and achievement of financial targets to support our mission and strategic objectives.
  • Be an active member of the Senior Leadership team and work collaboratively within this peer group.
  • Work with people with lived experience of mental health care to ensure that representative voices are reflected in our work and proposals.
  • Support the setup and implementation of successful bids, designing and delivering robust project management plans and processes.
  • Manage the strategic growth of our bid and grant writing and delivery activities.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Masters level qualification or equivalent training and/or experience

Desirable criteria

  • Qualification or extensive experience in bid management

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of successful bid and grant writing
  • Experience of meeting growing financial targets year on year

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of successfully bidding for large programmes of work, in partnership with multiple collaborators.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Outstanding written communication skills
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement and management skills

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of NHS and public sector procurement
