Purpose of the Role
Join the Weight Management and Sustainability team as the Functional Manager - Weight Management & Sustainability where you will collaborate with the Head of Whole Vehicle Physics to deliver our product ambitions and to shape our Beyond100+ strategy.
This role is responsible for leading, managing and developing a team that ensures both capacity and capability to deliver technical and business objectives to the right quality, on time and within budget for Weight Management and Sustainability.
- Lead and develop a team of Technical Managers and Engineers, who work with a wide variety of stakeholders across the business from the Concept Development through to Verification and Validation and Certification
- Planning to ensure completion of project deliverables, including engagement with relevant stakeholders and gaining their commitment to support, plus contracting external partners to secure necessary capacity and capability
- Lead balancing and conflict resolution between Weight and Sustainability targets and prognosis/delivery and represent these targets in wider project target balancing activities
- Be aware of, and drive transformation in adopting, new / already available tools and methods to deliver tangible efficiency and quality improvements
- Management of team budgets (projects, cost centre and capital) and resource plans to support multiple product development projects
About the Team
The Weight and Sustainability Management function is part of the Whole Vehicle Physics department and is at the forefront of delivering vehicle performance, efficiency and sustainability. The Weight and Sustainability Management function works cross functionally from concept, through to design/development and certification in order to manage the weight of the extraordinary Bentley product range.
About you - Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be a Lead Engineer/Technical Manager or Manager within the automotive industry with experience managing complex engineering projects.
- Demonstrable experience as a People Manager/relevant technical skills and desire to lead a team
- Weight Management and Sustainability understanding - not in depth technical detail at technology and part level; but sufficient understanding to be able to support the team with project delivery and problem solving
- Experience of Automotive platform engineering would be beneficial
- Exceptional business awareness and ability to make, and influence decisions within business context
- Ability to monitor and plan both project and people KPI's
- An Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience
