Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • To practice as an expert practitioner in own clinical area with a working knowledge of other clinical specialties.
  • Lead in the planning and implementation of care.
  • Monitor standards of practice, address deficiencies within team and role model high standards of care
  • Identifying and minimising risk, reporting, investigating and addressing identified risks.
  • Adhere to and role model dept and trust policies and guidelines.
  • To support systems of sharing good practice and learning from clinical incidents.

Management

  • To help facilitate team rosters with optimum skill mix to ensure cover of specialty.
  • resource management (supplies/equipment), staffing stays within budget.
  • Line management responsibilities- performance management, appraisals, sickness absence, allocations, training, interviewing, maintain standards.

Communication

  • To promote and participate in effective dialogue between patients/relatives and other members of the MDT within Dept/wider trust.
  • To care for a variety of patients where there are varying degrees of understanding and to treat patients/colleagues with dignity and respect.
  • To exercise judgement, planning and analysis as a means of participating in the decision within the Dept, Care Group and wider trust.
  • Ability to represent the interest of Theatres on the wider Acute Services Block workstream and to other Trust departments and provide expert Theatre opinion/perspective.

Education & Training

  • To maintain and extend knowledge base as an expert Theatre Practitioner
  • Support the learning environment in Theatres with the Practice Educator Team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Ist level RGN or ODP with NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Educated to Diploma/Degree level
  • Practice Educator/Supervisor course with yearly updates.

Experience

  • Significant clinical experience at Band 6 or above
  • Expert level skills in Vascular/Interventional Scrub and experience in other specialties.

Communication

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Training and teaching skills
  • Able to collaborate and work well in team environments.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • RGN or ODP with NMC or HCPC Registration
  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Teaching qualification/course- ENB 998, MSPP, A1 or V1/Practice Supervisor or Assessor
  • Specialist Theatre Course

Desirable criteria

  • management qualification or relevant training/courses

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Currently working at least as a Band 6 or 7 in Scrub/Recovery or Anaesthetics
  • Significant clinical experience experience in either Scrub/recovery or Anaesthetics
  • Experience in an acute NHS trust or comparable experience
  • Being able to lead a team

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

  • being able to lead and motivate Theatre colleagues
  • Specialist scrub, recovery or anaesthetic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with times both inside and outside of Theatres.
  • Staff and resource management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- written and spoken
  • Ability to work under pressure, adaptable, flexible and can meet deadlines
  • Caring and compassionate
  • IT skills and knowledge of trust information systems
  • An interest in transformation, redevelopment work and change
  • Working knowledge of risk and governance pertaining to Theatres
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
