Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The role involves managing and delivering high-quality analytics for the Surgery division, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of complex data, particularly theatre data.
  • You will oversee the integration of CPG analytics into divisional reporting, supporting pathway analysis and decision-making.
  • Collaboration with clinical, operational, and divisional stakeholders is key, providing data-driven insights to support improvements.
  • You will ensure compliance with reporting standards, meeting audit requirements, and present complex data in clear formats to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Additionally, you will identify trends and risks to support divisional strategies, while continuously enhancing the BI team's analytical tools and processes.
  • You will also act as the primary contact for all analytics queries within the Surgery division and relevant CPG programs.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Graduate or equivalent qualification or experience

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of further learning.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • High level complex statistical analysis skills, including time trends, standardisation and benchmarking
  • High level of database skills, including SQL/Visual Basic code, relational database design, querying, and reporting functions
  • High level of software skills, including Excel statistical functions, pivot tables, complex linkages, referential look-up and algorithm writing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Comprehensive understanding the of Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to work closely with technical staff.
  • Good understanding of the importance of data quality in the business process.
  • Understanding of the NHS commissioning process.

Desirable criteria

  • Local and National IM&T strategies.
  • NHS Guidance and Legislation.
  • Proven track record of project management.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience in a senior of information analysis role.
  • Ability to work effectively with Clinicians and Board level executives
  • Ability to work effectively with senior professional staff.
  • Track record of problem solving and innovation
  • Understanding of data flows within the NHS

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of implementing successful projects
  • Experience of training and supervising staff in an information environment
