Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder is expected to work on a shift pattern with a mixture of days and nights, as well as weekends and bank holidays.

As this is a full time post the expectation is to work 37.5 hrs a week that will equate to 13 shifts on a 4-week roster.

The post holder will support with the effective management of the Trust's bed capacity over a 24-hour period when required. Will also aim to maintain the flow of patients from point of entry to discharge making best use of the Trusts bed availability and supporting maximum performance of the Emergency Department (ED) government targets, and where-ever possible reducing the number of bed moves experienced by patients.

The post holder will also be expected to aid the Senior Site managers in the out of hour's co-ordination role of on-site services, working with staff to ensure that all services within the hospital are being delivered to an agreed standard.

This will include assisting Senior Site managers with co-ordination and provision of assistance of first line management in major and serious untoward incidents and provision of operational management in the out of hour's period under the direction of Senior Site Managers.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Diploma in Adult Nursing or similar.
  • Professional body registration within the field of healthcare.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in Operational services department undertaking aspects of band & role.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of EPR / Cerner IT systems.
  • Experienced/demonstrates an understanding of the principles of bed management in relationship to Government and local targets
  • Demonstrable understanding of issues within acute Health Service.
  • Experience of the processes involved in social care and continuing needs of patients in non-acute settings and how to access these services
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Experience in dealing with people and the allocating of appropriate patients to appropriate clinical settings.

Desirable criteria

  • Able to function in role of assistant to Senior managers of Hospital out of hours as point of contact in site issues

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Band 6 or above with experience in acute healthcare environment

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of Operational management

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
