This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 1.6 million people a year through our three main hospitals: Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free.

We are delighted to advertise this exciting opportunity for a Surgical Appliances and Orthotics Manager covering Barnet and Chase Farm hospital sites. We are looking for someone who has management and leadership experience, and who also has clinical experience in supplying a fitting a range of off the shelf orthotics including surgical hosiery and breast prosthesis.

Our department is looking for someone who is able to lead change and who is dedicated to providing the best clinical care to our patients to join our welcoming team. Previous experience working with Orthotics is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to work within our busy service. You will be supported in this role by the Assistant operations manager and Outpatient Therapy Lead - working closely to develop and progress the Orthotics department.

This role will require the successful applicant to run the Orthotics department cross site between Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals as well as provide Orthotic clinics to our patients. This is a very diverse role which will require the ability to balance a variety of managerial tasks along with clinical responsibilities. You will have excellent communication skills, be adaptable to different environments and provide excellent leadership to our Orthotics team. Cross cover is essential and you will be required to travel to different sites.

  • Limited Functional fitter qualification or equivalent experience
  • Certificated graduate courses or equivalent in-house training in Orthotics /Prosthetics taught by experts in this area or equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to advanced clinical and professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Minimum of 1st degree or equivalent.
  • Management /Business management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Comprehensive experience working in Orthotic services and provision, preferably within the NHS
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a senior orthotic assistant role with management or leadership responsibilities
  • Demonstrative experience of staff management or leading a team.
  • Demonstrable clinical experience in a senior orthotic assistant role autonomously measuring for and providing stockings and breast prostheses.
  • Understanding and application of the Orthotic provision process with evidence of clinical reasoning and clinical problem solving.
  • Evidence of CPD in the form of a portfolio/course attendance or similar, detailing post-graduate structured, supervised in-service training received/attended, reflective practice
  • Thorough understanding of setting & maintaining clinical standards & clinical audit
  • Supervision of more junior staff.
