Job overview

We are looking to appoint motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Nurses ideally with leadership experience though not essential as full support and training will be provided for senior band 5 nurses who are able to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil this role. Applicant should be qualified in the neonatal speciality. We currently have vacancy at the Royal Free site which is a level 1 unit with 12 Special Care and 2 HDU costs, with a friendly, motivated, and dynamic teams that promote Family Integrated Care. We work very closely with Barnet Hospital which is our sister hospital. Barnet neonatal unit is a level 2 with 30 cots including Intensive care and High dependency cots. You will have the opportunity to rotate between the two units as a means of developing your skills.

Main duties of the job
• Deliver direct patient care to babies meeting the criteria for High Dependency and Special Care levels of needs.
• Dealing with clinical emergencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Clear communication with parents and colleagues.
• Help and support parents, keeping them updated about their babies.
• Teach and support students and new staff.
• Escalate concerns appropriately.
• Take part in quality improvement projects on the unit.
• Complete timely discharge planning for babies on the unit.

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Course (Formerly ENB 405)
  • Diploma/degree in relevant subject
  • Enhanced Neonatal Nursing Course (ENNP)
  • Neonatal New-born Life Support

Desirable criteria

  • Child Protection Training
  • Practice Assessor/Mentorship (formerly ENB 998/997
  • Working towards Degree Level

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum experience of 2 years at Band 5 or above level
  • Evidence of recent studies in relevant field

Desirable criteria

  • Previous Band 6 experience
