JOB TITLE: Azure Virtual Desktop Automation Engineer
SALARY: £66,861 - £90,000
LOCATION: Edinburgh or Leeds
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

The team delivers, supports and develops AVD capabilities using ensuring that the services are suitable for enterprise-wide consumption across multiple locations and 20,000 colleagues.

As one of our AVD Automation Engineers you'll participate in a team developing, testing and maintaining virtualisation solutions for the whole of LBG. You'll have responsibilities for the development of these solutions which will bring genuine benefit based on business requirements. You'll also be key to furthering the skills more junior colleagues to improve capabilities within the team

We'll expect you to be a technology innovator challenge conventional thinking and influence a new approach to technology change underpinned by modern principles.

Operating in an exciting environment with the opportunity to work across the Azure technology Stack you'll be working closely with and influencing vendors to align their products with LBG strategic goals.

About you:

You should have experience with design and development of solutions using technology across a subset of the following areas and be able to evidence capability to AZ104 and AZ 140 :

  • Infrastructure services like Virtual Machines, Azure Active Directory, Azure Storage, Security, Network Components.
  • Azure policies and governance tools for handling compliance and security
  • Expertise in securing virtualized environments, including threat detection, incident response, and compliance frameworks.
  • Automation tooling for example Logic Apps, Functions, Azure Automation, Event Grid etc
  • AVD architecture, deployment options, management tools, and security standard methodologies.
  • Experience configuring and optimizing AVD for pooled and non-pooled deployments.
  • Experience using FSlogix for profile & application management
  • Familiarity with application packaging and delivery techniques for AVD
  • You'll possess experience with Infrastructure & Configuration as code concepts and tools: Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Bicep, Terraform, or similar.

  • Proven experience of PowerShell, KQL, YAML for automating AVD-related tasks.
  • Experience building and deploying secure and scalable Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments through CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps
  • Understanding of Git or other version control systems for running IaaC code effectively.
  • Experience of image development and management using Packer or Azure Image Builder
  • Experience with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics for proactive monitoring and problem solving of Infrastructure as Code based AVD environments.
  • Experience of client management (compliance, configuration, application delivery) using Intune
  • Experience of Desired State Configuration through code
  • A shown understanding of delivery frameworks such as Agile
  • Communication skills are important to ensure successful outcomes as part of the wider team.
  • A consistent record of solving complex issues in a distributed cloud environment.
  • Ability design and document robust solution designs in Azure
  • Proven capability in mentoring and developing colleagues
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills: Collaboration and communication with users, customers, and other IT teams are crucial.
  • Attention to detail : Ensuring security, compliance, and optimal performance requires meticulous attention to detail and proactive monitoring.
  • Ability to learn and adapt: The cloud landscape is constantly evolving, so staying updated with the latest technologies and standard methodologies is critical.
  • Resilience and stress management: Working in a high-pressure environment with demanding SLAs requires composure and the ability to handle challenges effectively.
