About the Role:
In this role you will lead and shape the work of the Internal Audit Team and provide thought leadership in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality audit plan and proactive fraud prevention strategy.
Working with all levels of management you will influence to drive improvements in internal control, good governance and risk management processes which are essential to help the Council deliver its vision and objectives, leading delivery of a risk-based audit plan across the council and its companies. We also provide services for other clients who you will also be involved with.
You will also lead on developing and delivering a programme of counter-fraud work that will support the Council in fraud prevention to minimise losses in support of financial sustainability goals of the council.
You will lead and develop a small but high-performing team of audit and counter-fraud professionals ensuring resilience in the team is maintained and professional audit and counter fraud standards are understood and complied with.
About You:
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and qualified internal auditor or accountant with current membership of a relevant professional body who has a forward looking, innovative, value adding and commercial thinking outlook coupled with capability to lead a team of internal audit and counter fraud staff with integrity in a fast paced and complex environment.
Your experience should include demonstrable success of leading internal audit work in a large and diverse organisation including building effective working relationships with clients, impactful communication and motivating colleagues to deliver.
You will have experience in applying modern auditing techniques including an understanding of the control environment in IT systems and the benefit of using data and analytics to enhance assurances offered.
You will understand fraud risks facing organisations you have worked in and have implemented strategies to prevent or minimise the risk of fraud.
