We are a growing team focussed on providing sound financial reporting and auditing advice to other ABS and wider Professional Services teams. We play a pivotal role in audit quality and have control over our own audit methodology within the ISA framework. We support our teams with a variety of financial reporting issues, and provide direct involvement in pre issuance technical reviews on listed company financial statements. We run training both to internal staff and external clients and contacts on current and upcoming changes. If you see yourself in an environment with an exciting and constantly fresh workload, and where you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in of one of the fastest growing audit firms in the UK, NATG might be exactly what you're looking for.

As one of five people in the NATG (National Assurance Technical Group) department, you will be delivering a number of key services to a consistently high standard. We work closely together to achieve this, sharing our knowledge and expertise via regular meetings and one-to-ones. We're looking for someone who can make a strong contribution in this team environment.

As Technical Manager, some of your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing UK GAAP, IFRS and audit technical support and training, via the NATG Mailbox, webinars and face-to-face training, to ABS (Assurance Business Services) and other departments across the Evelyn Partners Group as necessary. You'll know when to seek second opinions within NATG on technical matters and will work closely with the team in providing training.
  • Helping to develop and implement Evelyn Partner's audit methodology, working closely with ABS partners and staff to ensure that it drives audit quality across all offices without unnecessary inefficiency.
  • Research of emerging technical issues, producing practical written guidance and evaluating current processes in light of new requirements.
  • Ensure consistently high audit quality by performing both hot and cold file review

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you would have:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA).
  • Technical expertise: an essential part of the role, based not just on "the rule book" but also your ability to consider practical issues.
  • Problem solving: many enquiries don't have straightforward answers, so we're looking for someone who can think through the issues and consider the wider ramifications of any response.
  • Judgement and risk awareness: you should be able to judge the extent to which something is material if a particular approach is adopted over another. You should also be able to consider whether a particular issue potentially exposes the firm to a wider risk, in conjunction with the head of NATG if necessary.
  • Planning and organising: NATG is a busy department and you'll be working on a number of areas, so you'll have to balance your workload and reassess it regularly. Prioritising technical queries is a key part of the job.
  • Communication: you'll need to express yourself clearly, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of people with different levels of experience, especially when dealing with complex technical topics. Partners and staff need clear and concise instructions on the application of new standards. You'll also sometimes need to redraft the work of others.
  • Persuading and influencing you should be able to explain to partners and staff why a certain approach needs to be adopted, as it may not always be what the client wishes to do.
