As our Assurance Assessor, you'll play a critical role in ensuring statutory compliance, safety, and operational integrity across approximately 3,800 Tesco retail sites. Acting as the regional subject matter expert, you'll lead assurance activities, validate compliance standards, and support maintenance teams in delivering a safe, legal, and fully functioning estate for customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
This is a role for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills. You'll work across multiple teams to drive compliance, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure Fire, DSEAR, and PFS regulations are consistently applied and embedded throughout the estate.

You will be responsible for
- Delivering regional Fire, DSEAR and PFS assurance activities, including site inspections, validation checks, evidence reviews, and assurance reporting.
- Ensuring compliance with Fire, DSEAR, PFS regulations, British Standards, Tesco policies, and internal governance requirements.
- Assessing and validating contractor scopes, quotations, inspections, and remedial works to ensure regulatory and framework compliance.
- Acting as the regional subject matter expert for Fire, DSEAR and PFS, providing technical guidance and support to maintenance teams and stakeholders.
- Supporting national governance activities to ensure consistent standards for inspections, maintenance, competence, and evidence management.
- Driving the development and standardisation of Fire, DSEAR and PFS procedures and controls aligned with Approved Codes of Practice (ACoP).
- Completing post-remedial reviews to verify corrective actions meet statutory, internal, and British Standard requirements.
- Collaborating with Tesco Business Solutions and external suppliers to coordinate inspections, remediation programmes, compliance reporting, and documentation management.
- Supporting improvements to systems, technology, automation, scheduling processes, and evidence management.
- Partnering with Property Field Teams to prioritise remedial actions, manage risk, and ensure timely closure of compliance issues.
- Identifying regional and systemic safety trends, analysing recurring defects, and supporting targeted improvement plans.
- Providing compliance advice, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior stakeholders. Supporting incident investigations through technical expertise, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Travelling regularly across the region to conduct assurance reviews, inspections, and verification activities.
You will need
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Fire, DSEAR, PFS legislation, regulations, and associated standards.
- Experience supporting formal incident investigation processes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to make informed decisions.
- Computer literacy, including EAM systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and accountabilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Significant technical and maintenance engineering experience.
- Experience managing or assuring Fire, DSEAR, and PFS compliance within a large and complex organisation.
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Engineering qualification or time-served Level 3 qualification (preferred).
