Our Streets team, within our Transportation business line, has a vacancy for an Associate Director with experience in leading the delivery of transportation engineering schemes in our Birmingham office. You will be joining our team who are recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector, including active travel, public transport, bus priority, traffic engineering and continue to deliver high profile and impactful projects across the region.

The successful candidate will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of high-profile projects and services to a range of both local and national clients.

You will have a proven team leadership, business development, project delivery and business management experience within a commercial environment. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. In addition to delivering work within the local office, the role will involve working with other AECOM teams across the UK and Ireland. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business. Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOM's wider UK European, Middle East, and India regions.

  • Various projects with a range of local authority clients across the region including Wolverhampton and Sandwell Councils

Here's what you'll do:

  • Deliver: The Streets team is responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of projects aimed at improving our streets and places for local authority clients across the UK and Ireland. We provide feasibility, concept, preliminary and detailed design, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-discipline transportation and urban realm projects. In addition, we support other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised transportation interface.
  • Oversee: You will be responsible for the appointment of competent discipline lead engineers for technical delivery. Plan and develop engineering tasks concerned with unique problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  • Provide Expertise: Offer technical knowledge and expertise to the design team on all aspects of multi-disciplinary projects, from conceptual phases to implementation.
  • Ensure Quality: Working through the complexities of our Transportation projects, you will hold our clients' hands and overcome problems in unison when they inevitably arise. Provide Health, Safety and Wellness leadership to the district team consistent with AECOM's safety policies and procedures to deliver a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members. Oversee the preparation of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic, active travel, and urban realm engineering schemes. Oversee the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.
  • Collaborate: Leading a team of multi-disciplinary consultants to deliver integrated designs and building effective relationships with our technical teams and Clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop sound client relationships, being alert to commercial opportunities, identifying emerging opportunities and developing strategies to fully exploit them.
  • Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system, act as a Project Director and Project Manager including monitoring financial performance. Comprehensive training on AECOM's project management system will be provided.
  • Ensure Technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.
  • Support and monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation.
  • Manage career progression of line reports.
  • Support senior management Streets team, including deputising for the Streets Director Central South West and Wales as required.
  • Actively recruit to grow the team.
  • Develop Client relationships through business development being the key point of contact for meetings and liaison.
  • Prepare detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to or lead bids.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams across AECOM's business lines including Planning, Structures, Infrastructure, Water, Power, Landscape.
  • Working with colleagues to deliver marketing and business development objectives in both the local region and nationally.

Qualifications

Here's what we're looking for:

  • A successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering projects, particularly sustainable infrastructure projects and roads/traffic engineering projects.
  • A successful track record of delivery of bids and proposals and proven ability to manage and growing a team, with strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a highly motivated project delivery team.
