The opportunity
KPMG's Strategy & Performance Transformation practice is looking for exceptional Associate Director candidates with Energy Transition experience in a Deal, Strategy and/or a Commercial role.
The Strategy & Performance Transformation team is part of KPMG's rapidly expanding Strategy Group, which delivers value for clients by challenging conventional thinking, bringing deep industry and functional insights and executing with investor-grade rigour. We are a diverse team of over 150 practitioners, working collaboratively with and orchestrating KPMG's broad set of capabilities within our Deal Advisory business.

Our Strategy and Performance Transformation team works closely with c-suite and senior executives to grow, transform and transact whilst adding and protecting value for shareholders, employees and society. As the world continues to face unprecedented levels of change through decarbonisation, digitalisation, regulation and post-COVID 'normalisation', we have experienced remarkable market demand for our core services of i) Growth Strategy ii) transactions and iii) transformation. Roles and Responsibilities
To be an effective Associate Director within our team applicants will be expected to:
- Work closely with the rest of the senior team, you will help lead and further develop the team, increasing our presence in the sector.
- This will include identifying new opportunities and contributing towards winning work.
- You will build relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors (e.g. technical and boutique).
- The projects that you will advise on will be high profile and varied. These could include advising on net zero strategies, decarbonisation of the energy sector, the future of gas, low carbon technology assessments and much more.
- There is no 'typical project'. You will need to apply a structured strategic approach to problem solving, drawing on established strategic and commercial principles, while having the capacity to think creatively.
- You will be taking on Project Management responsibility for the delivery of key projects. This will include delegating tasks to team members, constructing project plans, managing client interactions, tracking budgets, and complying with the company's risk processes.
- Owning proposals for new business opportunities in the Energy sector.
- You will need to be comfortable managing, coaching, and mentoring junior staff on specific projects.
- You will maintain a good technical understanding of the energy sector, including the power, gas and/or CCUS value chains as well as commercial, policy, regulation, and subsidy structures

Your Experience
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following:
Work Experience:
- Have significant deal, commercial and/or strategy experience in the energy sector.
Technical skills:
- Have strong knowledge of corporate strategy and investment decision making;
- Will have had tangible exposure to transactions;
- Understand how emerging net zero technologies can impact businesses and how they can be successfully implemented;
- Have a good understanding of new and emerging value propositions in the utilities sector (such as electric vehicles, hydrogen, CCUS, renewables & storage)
- Have a working level understanding of energy policy
- Bring excellent report writing, Excel and PowerPoint skills;
- Be skilled in strategic and financial analysis (inc. modelling);
- Bring an inquisitive mind-set and be comfortable challenging the status quo;
- Be comfortable and/or experienced in an external facing role;
- Provide compelling and well-thought out solutions to strategic, financial or economic problems of high complexity;
- Provide persuasive and self-assured responses in a credible manner;
- Appreciate the chance to work on a wide range of projects and proposals simultaneously to demanding timetables.
- Have experience of managing medium size project teams, with a focus on mentoring and coaching junior staff
