Are you passionate about delivering effective social inputs and positively influencing the social performance of large-scale projects around the world? .Are you ready to lead a team of talented social specialists? Based in the UK you will play a key role in managing the social aspects of international Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and social performance services on major projects.
Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Environment & Sustainability business as an International Social specialist Associate Director in our growing London, Bristol or Edinburgh offices, as well as taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. The ESIA & ESDD Practice Area work closely with specialists in AECOM's network of offices in over 100 countries. Our geographical areas are varied, for example some of the projects we have delivered recently include:
- Conducting Human Rights Due Diligence and Human Rights Impact Assessments in accordance with the requirements of the Equator Principles and the UN Guiding Principles of Business and Human Rights.
- ESIA and ESDD for major projects across Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia including highways, ports, railways, airports, solar power, hydro power, thermal power, pipelines, industrial facilities, urban masterplans and more;
- Engaging local authorities and communities for a sustainable city project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia;
- Resettlement and livelihood restoration planning and implementation for projects in Guinea, Senegal, and Uzbekistan; and
- Environmental and Social monitoring of the implementation of environmental and social action plans for various infrastructure projects through construction and operational phases. Recent projects include thermal power projects in Guam and Armenia, a railway in Ghana, a highway in Turkey, a bus rapid transit project in Cote d'Ivoire.

In this role, you will lead all aspects of ESIA, ESDD and social performance services primarily under key client long-term frameworks. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to lead a talented, diverse team committed to managing the social aspects of international ESIA, ESDD and social performance services on major projects. Working as either a member of a multidisciplinary team, or directly for clients.
Here's what you'll do:
- Oversee:
Contribution to and coordinating delivering ESIAs including social baseline studies, assessments of social impacts, identification of mitigation measures, and preparation of social management plansfor projects financed by international lenders.
Preparation and implementation of resettlement and livelihood restoration plans.
- Lead
Lead and develop AECOM's social offering by contributing to business development, recruitment and strategic planning for the social team
Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment.
- Provide Expertise:
Offer technical knowledge and expertise. Acting as independent lender's consultant and contributing to ESDDs and monitoring through construction and operation.
Ensure compliance with international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and other relevant guidelines.
Social performance monitoring and reporting.
- Collaborate:
Work closely with clients and AECOM counterparts to secure training and capacity building on social performance for clients
- Growth:
You will be involved in work winning through contributing to proposal preparation, mentoring junior consultants and maintaining client relationships.

Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what's possible?
Here's what we're looking for:
- Experience in supporting social inputs in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and/or Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), including Social Impact Assessment, Stakeholder Engagement, Social Due Diligence and/or Resettlement Action Plans following international standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
- Experience of conducting Human Rights Due Diligence and Human Rights Impact Assessments in accordance with the requirements of the Equator Principles and the UN Guiding Principles of Business and Human Rights.
- Excellent knowledge of written and oral English, with good report writing and presentation skills.
- Proven experience in applying baseline data collection methodologies and carrying out stakeholder engagement activities in emerging markets and rural communities, particularly in Africa, Central Asia, eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
- The ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable.
- Willingness to travel.
