About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Operations, the Associate Director of Governance, Reporting and Portfolio Oversight will play a critically important role in overseeing the Directorate's governance and reporting commitments. The role includes day-to-day management and oversight of IES governance, including responsibility for the work of the Partnerships Committee and Partnerships Advisory Group. The role holder will monitor and provide oversight of the IES portfolio to support the directorate to monitor and report on key programmes, projects, and relationships and their associated risks, milestones, and deliverables.

IES brings together several high performing teams, and the role holder can expect autonomy over their time and ownership of work. You will be trusted for your capability and expertise but with plenty of support where needed. You will have line management responsibility for two project/programme managers and this role will provide an opportunity to develop relationships and work closely with colleagues across the wider university. Close working and engagement with colleagues across King's will be central to success in this role especially those in faculties, King's Portfolio Management team, Research Management and Innovation Directorate.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent
  2. Experience and knowledge of programme and project management design and methods
  3. Experience of successfully drawing on programme and/or project toolkits to bring coherence and control to a portfolio of work
  4. Strong critical and analytical skills, able to provide actionable insight that helps inform decisions and plans
  5. Understanding and experience in governance systems and processes; and organisational decision-making
  6. Confidence in working with and in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and building strong working relationships to drive effective outcomes
  7. Excellent written, PowerPoint and verbal communication skills
  8. Adept at engaging with sponsors and stakeholders, including with external and senior colleagues, and adapting message, style and manner as needed
  9. Flexible, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable with ambiguity

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience within the Higher Education sector or adjacent/similar sector and understanding of the strategic context we operate in
  2. A recognised qualification in programme or project management
