About the role

This is a new senior leadership role within Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement (P&A) which has responsibility for shaping, leading and growing philanthropy across the nine academic faculties within King's College London.

King's has an ambition to significantly scale philanthropic income for faculties as we prepare to launch our next major fundraising campaign in 2027 and mark the university's bicentenary in 2029. There is currently at least one major gift fundraiser working in each faculty. They act as the key conduit between the work of the central philanthropy team and the academic centres of King's. Each faculty has a range of philanthropic goals centred around research excellence and teaching.

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy & Campaign and part of the wider leadership team within Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement, this role will oversee two teams of senior fundraisers embedded within faculties. The post holder will provide strategic oversight and coordination of all faculty-based major gift fundraising and ensure delivery of their team's income and activity goals. They will work alongside Executive Deans and other senior leaders to create a sustainable philanthropic programme for all of the University's faculties.

As well as leading and inspiring others, the post holder will manage a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, building relationships that lead to six, seven and eight figure philanthropic support for King's.

They will play a key role in being a central point of contact and escalation for all the Executive Deans and will be responsible for ensuring that there is a consistent approach to fundraising across all of the faculties.

The post holder will be a senior figure within Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement and work alongside the newly appointed Associate Director, Principal & International Giving and the Associate Director, King's Maudsley Partnership Philanthropy . As such, they will be expected to contribute to wider philanthropy strategy and leadership of the team.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we're very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Proven track record of personally securing six- and seven-figure philanthropic gifts
  2. Significant experience managing and developing high-performing major gift fundraisers or teams
  3. Experience developing and delivering strategic fundraising plans in complex organisations
  4. Ability to and experience of engaging and working with senior stakeholders and academics
  5. Strong team leadership and people management skills
  6. Excellent communication, proposal development, and donor engagement skills
  7. Highly organised and data-literate, with experience using fundraising CRMs such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce
  8. Demonstrable commitment to donor stewardship and long-term relationship development

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience in a university or health-related fundraising environment preferably in a role with a high level of contact with academics or clinicians
  2. Familiarity with the UK higher education and research funding context
  3. Experience in a multi-year, multi-million-pound fundraising campaign

This roles with have two interview stages, a standard skills-based interview followed (for up to two appointable candidates) by a Core Values interview.

First stage interviews are due to be held on 16th September. Second stage interviews are due to be held in the week commencing 22nd September. Core Values interviews are dure to be held in the week commencing 29th September.
