We are looking to recruit an experienced lawyer to join our Construction team and be part of our wider Real Estate practice. At Associate Director level, this role sits at the heart of the team's delivery and growth agenda. The successful candidate will take ownership of client relationships, lead on the delivery of complex non-contentious construction matters, and play an active role in business development and the mentoring of junior colleagues.

The primary focus is non-contentious construction work, although candidates with a mixed background in non-contentious and contentious work are preferred.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Leading the delivery of a broad range of non-contentious construction matters, including contract negotiation and drafting, procurement strategy, and project advisory work.
  • Working across a variety of cases and asset classes, including mixed use, residential, commercial, build-to-rent, hotels, student accommodation, and industrial developments, as well as corporate occupier acquisitions and disposals and property finance transactions across the UK.
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted adviser to a sophisticated client base, delivering commercially focused and pragmatic advice.
  • Taking a leading role in business development activity, including pitching, tendering, attending industry events, and producing thought leadership content.
  • Engaging in regular marketing and profile-raising activities, both internally across the firm and externally in the market.
  • Contributing to the general upkeep and development of the group, including training, precedent management, and know-how.
  • Supervising, supporting, and developing junior members of the team.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across Deloitte's wider multidisciplinary practice to deliver integrated client solutions.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with approximately proven years' PQE in construction law, with a strong focus on non-contentious work.
  • Proven experience in non-contentious construction law; experience in construction disputes work is also advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience advising on a wide range of standard form contracts, including JCT and NEC; familiarity with FIDIC is an advantage.
  • A strong academic background or equivalent.
  • Experience advising developers, funders, occupiers, and/or contractors on major projects across a range of asset classes.

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
