At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Job overview

At East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust we are looking for an experienced clinician who has experience working at a senior level, providing strategic vision and leadership in the specialist field of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about driving improvement in patient safety and the quality of care across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief Nurse you will take a strategic lead and be responsible for owning and driving the strategic clinical governance, quality assurance and quality improvement agenda.

The Associate Director of Clinical Governance and Quality will be accountable for the delivery of quality assurance and improvement and will have a specific remit in providing expertise and leadership in clinical governance, quality assurance and improvement. As a patient safety specialist, the Associate Director will provide patient safety expertise/leadership with the organisation and support the continued development of the patient safety culture.

The post-holder will liaise with the Chief of Staff, the Chief Nurse and the Chief Medical Officer to ensure that the clinical governance, health and safety, patient safety and other clinical corporate functions are engaged so as to promote joined-up resolutions and improved awareness of the clinical governance issues we face collectively.

The Associate Director for Clinical Governance and Quality will provide strategic input and senior representation and leadership on multi-agency meetings/ICB meetings as required. You will be responsible for producing and presenting high quality, accurate reports to boards, committee's and other meetings as requiring, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Masters Level or equivalent level of experience, of working at a senior level in a Quality Governance or Risk management NHS role.
  • Full current professional registration, or previous clinical experience
  • Extensive knowledge of key portfolio areas, which must include Integrated Governance systems and patient safety. This will be acquired through 5 years' experience, supported by relevant specialist training
  • Extensive knowledge of financial, performance and staff management gained through senior management experience and/or qualification
  • Evidence of substantial continued professional development or equivalent amount of knowledge and experience at senior management level

  • Experience of working in partnership with senior clinical, executive and managerial colleagues with a proven ability to influence and change these groups
  • Experience of analysing, developing and implementing local or national policy at organisational level
  • Proficient IT skills in word, excel, powerpoint etc Preparing reports, analysing highly complex data for Boards, committees and working groups
  • Evidence of delivering against set objectives and achieving key organisational targets under tight timescales
  • Evidence of developing new systems, processes and reporting structures to improve clinical and corporate performance and efficiency
  • Relevant experience of working effectively across organisational and professional boundaries in complex organisations
  • Able to understand and work with the complexities of NHS organisations at Board level
