Associate Director Architect
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Associate Director Architect to fill a leading role in our dynamic team. In this role, you will work closely with our team of architects and designers, as well as the rest of the CBRE business, leading architectural projects from the initial concept phase through to completion.
What you'll do:
- Development of architectural designs and providing creative and technical direction.
- Creating detailed drawings and 3D models using computer-aided design (Revit) software.
- Overseeing and managing research to support the design process, including researching building codes, materials, and construction techniques.
- Preparation of design proposals, presentations, and reports.
- Coordination of project documentation and managing project databases.
- Contributing to the development of sustainable design strategies.
- Site analysis, including surveying and site visits.
- Provide formal supervision to employees. Monitor the training and development of staff. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching. Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new employees.
- Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities. Establish work schedules, assign tasks, and cross-train staff.
- Set and track staff and department deadlines. Mentor and coach as needed.
- Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to obtain new clientele.
- Act as primary contact with the key stakeholders. Directly impact the success of a project by overseeing design quality, fiscal management, client satisfaction and team management.
- Review project proposals and add services with review from Project Director and Design Director.
- Implement and develop QA/QC processes within project schedule.
- Identify and document additional services for review by the Project Director and approval of client.
- Conduct design reviews with team to promote innovative solutions.
- Work with legal team to review contract documents for completeness and organization.
- Create and oversee construction, procurement, and labour budgets.
- Apply a broad knowledge of the business, own discipline, and how own discipline integrates with others to achieve team and departmental objectives.
- Lead by example and model behaviours that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Influence others to adopt a different point of view while being guided by policies and departmental plans.
- Identify and solve technical and operational problems of complexity.
- Understand and recognize the broader impact across the department.
- Improve and change existing methods, processes, and standards within job discipline.
What you'll need:
- An RIBA prescribed degree in architecture with RIBA Parts 1 or 2, Part 3 qualified and registered with the ARB.
- Leadership skills to motivate the team to achieve broad operational targets with impacts on own job discipline, multiple job disciplines, and department.
- Proficiency in Revit, Photoshop, InDesign and the like. Revit experience is a must for this role.
- Strong design, visualisation communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively and independently as part of a team and to communicate ideas effectively.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Significant knowledge of building regulations.
- Familiarity with architectural trends and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a creative approach to design.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
- A passion for architecture and design.
Work Experience:
Ideal candidates will have experience across all stages with projects and a proven track record delivering projects across the UK. We're seeking generalists that have experience across a number of typologies - both in our core sectors and with the opportunity to add sectors to our pipeline.
Candidates should also have experience leading internal and external project teams. A comprehensive understanding of the building control process is essential to this role. Similarly, candidates should be able to talk to their experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
Business development will be a key component of this role and candidates should be able to demonstrate their experience with pitching, networking and lead generation.
