Job Description

1. Deal Execution

To propose, negotiate and execute Leveraged Finance and Venture Debt facilities, to support the acquisition and growth of UK early-stage and SME companies by Private Equity firms and Investors. Analyse the business and financial performance of prospective customers and ensure debt structures are appropriate to meet their needs. Identify, minimise and mitigate risks. Responsible for the end-to-end credit process, including: due diligence review, financial modelling, writing of credit papers, presentation to Credit, client negotiation and completion of legal documentation.

2. Origination

To actively manage ongoing relationships with a variety of clients (sponsors, investors) and intermediaries. Originate business in the leveraged finance and venture debt market, including participation in client and intermediary meetings, preparation of pitches, and attendance at market events and conferences.

3. Stakeholder Management

To lead and support transactions, mentoring more junior staff. Relate effectively to the other parts of the Shawbrook group who play their part in the Financial Sponsors output i.e. Operations, Credit, HR, Finance, Corporate Banking.

4. Regulatory and Compliance

To report all issues of regulatory concern to the Operations Director / Bank Legal & Compliance Director. To communicate and escalate potential issues/risks in a prompt and effective manner. To provide support in managing the overall compliance and risk management framework of SF.

Qualifications

  • Quantitative Degree/CFA or similar business qualification or equivalent work experience appropriate to the role.
  • Min. 5 years' experience in leveraged finance and/ or venture debt lending.
  • Experience in structuring and executing transactions and risk management.
  • Compliance and governance experience would be considered a positive.
  • Strong analytical skills, including advanced knowledge of Excel, being able to manage and handle complex issues. Experience with financial models and good understanding of financial statements is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of leveraged finance and/or growth capital structures, including negotiation of legal documentation.
  • Industry knowledge in the general finance market desirable, but not essential, including a good understanding of lending practices, including structures, risk mitigation, covenant requirements, pricing and competition.
  • Excellent customer service, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Thorough comprehension of credit risk management, credit administration, loan production and servicing.
  • Compliance with all regulatory requirements, remaining in good standing with regulatory agencies.
  • Good commercial, financial acumen and capability in strategic thinking, executive level reporting and effective business planning.
  • Confident, ambitious and good team working skills combined with being able to interact within a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport in order to engage employees and gain support of peers.
  • Influencing skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management, regulators, and committees.
  • Ability to build industry network and develop strong relationships with all business areas.
  • Support the development of a strong balanced and effective team by conveying clearly goals and expectations.

Hybrid working - expectation of 2-3 days per week in the London office.
