About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Study Manager (Maternity Cover) to support the successful delivery of clinical research projects.
The Assistant Study Manager (Maternity Cover) will work closely with investigators, study teams, and clinicians to ensure that project milestones are met efficiently and in line with protocols and ethical, regulatory, and quality standards. As a key point of contact for study-related queries, the postholder will coordinate study recruitment, data collection, and study communications with professionalism and sensitivity.
Key responsibilities include monitoring study progress, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely data entry and reporting. The postholder will play a pivotal role in participant engagement, including the development and distribution of study communications, newsletters, and updates. Additionally, they will coordinate meetings, prepare meeting materials, and take minutes as required.
The role requires strong organisational and problem-solving skills to assist in planning study procedures, identifying recruitment barriers, and implementing strategies for improvement. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with experience in research coordination to contribute to impactful studies.
This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), offered as a 12-months fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Degree in any life science or numerate discipline, or a professional qualification (e.g., nursing)
- An understanding of ICH/GCP guidelines
- Excellent IT skills including working with databases
- Excellent organisational skills and adherence to deadlines
- Ability to show attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in all aspects of work
- Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise own schedule, as well part of a team, dealing with a wide variety of people
- Ability to predict, identify and resolve problems that are critical to the running of the study
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the context of communicating with diverse professional and public audiences
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and experience of project management
- Experience of working in a participant facing role in research studies or clinical trials
- Experience of working in remotely delivered or longitudinal research studies
- Ability to use data to create, analyse and present progress reports
- Understanding of medical terminology, either through study or working in a medical environment
