Assistant Service Manager - Archives and Local History

Role Responsibility

The Kent Archives and Local History Service is looking for an Assistant Archive Manager who is passionate about preserving, developing and making available historic collections, who has strong leadership skills and experience in archive or heritage services.

The post is based at the Kent History and Library Centre, with the opportunity to travel within Kent when needed. The Kent History and Library Centre is home to the Kent archives collection of documents, manuscript and printed books, maps and photographs relating to 1300 years of Kent's history. Kent Archives and Local History Service is an Accredited Archives Service and has Place of Deposit status for housing public records.

As Assistant Service Manager, you will support the Service Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our archive service. You will help manage and develop our collections, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, and lead a team committed to providing an excellent public service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in preserving local heritage and working to make it accessible to all.

You will manage a team of staff, developing and engaging them through support and effective supervision to provide a high quality service in line with Library, Registration and Archive Service's (LRA) and Kent County Council's (KCC) priorities. You will implement any developments and improvements to the service within agreed deadlines and in accordance with corporate and service policies and procedures.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

37 hours per week worked across a range of hours including some weekend working.
