Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, efficient patient services within defined clinical areas while supporting the Operational Management Team in service management.

They will work collaboratively with clinical, nursing, and divisional teams to achieve performance and quality targets, contribute to Directorate objectives, and lead agreed projects and service improvement initiatives.

In addition, they will collect, audit, analyse, and report complex clinical data relating to BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) and CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell Therapy) therapies for internal use and external registries, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

The role also involves maintaining specialist databases, supporting benchmarking and reporting to NHS England, contributing to research and audits, and providing effective line management, including staff appraisal, training, and development aligned with organisational goals.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide hands-on operational management ensuring the delivery of services in line with expected service standards.
  • Deliver key targets, support service improvements and projects, and maintain high standards of customer service.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain accurate, complete, and up to date clinical data for BMT and CAR-T patients, including transplant activity.
  • Extract and validate specialist clinical and laboratory data from multiple sources, including patient records, hospital systems, and departmental documentation.
  • Ensure patient consent for data sharing is recorded and managed appropriately.
  • Submit high quality data to national and international registries (e.g. EBMT, BSBMTCT, CIBMTR) within required timelines (Day 0, Day 100, Day 180, annual follow-up).
  • Complete statutory and commissioner reporting requirements, including quarterly submissions to NHS England and annual activity reporting.
  • Produce routine and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and analyses to support operational management, clinical teams, and governance.
  • Use statistical tools (e.g. SPSS) to support outcomes analysis, audit, and research activities.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights to inform decision-making, service improvement, and capacity planning.
  • Support regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g. JACIE, HTA, MHRA), including preparation for and participation in inspections.
  • Pepare all necessary documentation in relation to clinical studies (e.g. gene therapy).

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Qualification in Management such as First Line Managers Diploma or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Diploma in specialist subject such as management, information systems or Institute of Health Records and Information Management (IHRIM)/ or willingness to study for this.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable management experience (people and processes)
  • Significant NHS experience with sound knowledge of acute hospital processes
  • Knowledge of Patient Administration System and other relevant Trust system
  • Intermediate use of MS Excel or other spreadsheet packages

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of using Cerner or other relevant Trust systems
  • Experience of leading a project.

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of business management policies, procedures, practices acquired through education, professional qualifications or experience
  • Information analysis skills and knowledge of using data to improve services, including a proven ability to interpret, manipulate and present data
  • Evidence of ability to identify ways of improving systems
  • Project management skills
