Job overview
A unique opportunity has arisen for the role of Assistant Patient Dining Service Manager at Imperial College Healthcare.
This critical role supports the safe and effective delivery of hydration and nutrition to patients in a fast-paced environment, spanning multiple buildings and operating 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The role requires in depth technical knowledge of operational food production, back of house/front of house services, food safety legislation, allergen controls and industry best practice.
The post has line management responsibilities, involving team leading, coaching for performance and on the job training, the post holder will deputise for the Patient Dining Manager, be part of the St Mary's Hospital and Western Eye Hospital leadership team and play a vital role in delivering a service in accordance with our Trust values.
Main duties of the job
- Recommends changes to Patient Dining policy and service delivery, implementing changes as appropriate in consultation with the General Manager or other stake holders e.g. Dieticians.
- Ensure that all Patient Dining staff follow the correct procedures for signing out / in of all keys.
- Manage work activity using CARPS system, intervening and delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Management of all purchasing (food or non-food) required for the Patient Dining Department from the authorised supplies as set up by Procurement and or other Facilities Department.
- Manage of waste generated from all kitchen or preparation areas, and liaise with the Trust waste manager to ensure we are fully compliant at all times.
- To manage and develop a patient focused service that meets user expectation.
- To continuously develop and improve food service quality and hygiene standards.
- To have knowledge and understanding as and when required of changes in food service related legislation.

Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
- BIC Sc CPSS or related NVQ Qualification in Health & Safety
- Good standard of education - GCSE or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Healthcare support services, BICSc, CPSS Qualification in Health & Safety
- Institute of Environmental Health Officers Basic Food Hygiene certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of supervising a diverse workforce within a service environment
- Previous experience working in a customer facing role
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within the NHS or another public sector organisation
- Knowledge of cost controls
- Experience in the training and development of staff
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Experience in overseeing staff and implementation of best practices
- Experience in dealing with customers and handling complaints
- Implementation of innovation and improvement projects
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS or Hospital Patient Dining / Catering management experience
