The aim of the Youth Justice Service (YJS) is to prevent offending by children. The team is made up of multi-agency professionals from Children's Services, Police, Probation, Education and the Health Service. The Youth Justice Service works to both prevent children becoming involved in offending and children who have offended; the team undertake assessments to better understand the needs of each child and consider how we can keep them and the community safe.
As an Assistant Service Manager you manage the operations of Youth Justice Services in Sheffield on a day to day basis with direct operational control over elements of the service and in the absence of the Service Manager, to deputise for all aspects of service strategy and delivery within the Local Authority. You are responsible for the supervision of Team Managers and assisting the Service Manager in ensuring that effective systems are in place regarding the deployment of resources, performance management and strategic planning.

The successful candidate will embrace a trauma informed and child first approach to Youth Justice. They will have knowledge of the issues that impact children & families, and which can lead to engaging in offending behaviour, alongside an understanding of relevant legislation & National Standards. You will have excellent skills in engaging and building relationships with staff within and outside the service. You will provide supervision to staff on a formal and informal basis and through this will drive improvement and support staff to achieve the best possible outcomes for children. You will also develop relationships with key partners across the city providing services to children and their families.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
