Are you ready to play a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of rail operations? Balfour Beatty is seeking an Assistant Route Operations Manager to support our Rail team based in Hither Green. In this pivotal role, you'll coordinate both short-term and long-term planning activities, ensuring seamless shift execution aligned with our customer commitments.
You'll also take ownership of planning responsibilities within your designated area, working closely with a dedicated planner to drive operational excellence.
What you'll be doing
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for Managing Safety Critical work and making decisions about safety critical activities
- Ensuring that all medicals are maintained in date.
- Communicating on a weekly basis with machine crews to ensure all safety, performance and operational issues are briefed and understood.
- Responsible and accountable for safe Route delivery in accordance with customer requirements.
- Taking informed but decisive action to resolve risks and issues that jeopardise our ability to meet our clients requirements
- Working with the Business Unit Manager to implement robust plans to control and reduce cost where necessary.
- Lead, mentor and coach all members of your team to ensure that they are achieving and maintaining performance KPI's set out by yourself in line with business and area targets.
- Ensuring that records within the Balfour Beatty Online Competence Management System are maintained.
- Managing workload to an auditable standard
- Oversee all statutory documentation for all operators on a weekly basis: Work Plans, Rosters.
- Assist with changes to shifts on a weekly basis and liaise with contracts manager.
- Monitor and plan renewable competencies - PTS and other training courses.
- Plan in route learning to coincide with Optimum route plan.
- Deputise for the ROM and assist where necessary.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- A strong understanding of railway practices
- Knowledge of the Rail Industry and safety implications.
- Hold, or willing to work towards recognised industry qualifications including PTS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with conflict management
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent certificated training
- Knowledge of machine movements involving running times and conductors.
- Knowledge of Terms and Conditions Agreements
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Have a good awareness of railway health and safety requirements
- Man management experience
