Job description

The Assistant Project Manager is a key role sitting at the heart of our Major Projects and Programme delivery activities . You will be assisting Project Managers on the delivery of projects, or managing your own smaller, lower risk projects. You will also work with senior colleagues gaining experience of major Projects and work Packages. You will be involved in the project delivery process from initial strategic planning, through to feasibility, detailed design and then into construction and delivery. Everything you do will bring you the daily reward of knowing that you are helping to save lives, protect homes and businesses and create a better place for people and wildlife.

You will become part of a great working environment that include our supply partners, client representatives, technical specialists and other partners. You will develop skills in project, commercial, contract and risk management. You will become involved in a range of activities such as data management, researching background on flood risk areas, setting up new projects, using systems and processes to help manage projects, attend site visits and public exhibition meetings. You will learn how to apply EA legislation, policy and guidance.

The team

The Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands team sits within Programme and Contract Management, part of Major Projects and Programme Delivery team.

We provide project and programme management capability, delivering projects across the West Midlands. Our well-qualified award winning teams manage a wide range of projects throughout their lifecycle, delivering outcomes for flood risk and resilience, wildlife, nature and our communities. Adding value and delivering results through collaboration is at the heart of what we do.

Experience/skills required

You will demonstrate a broad knowledgebase in project and programme management principles. The ability to develop a network of relationships with internal colleagues and liaise with local communities and landowners to agree land access, share proposals and gain consents will be vital.
• A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline is ideal but not essential.
• Numeracy and report writing skills, Analytical skills to solve problems, take responsibility and make decisions and data Management.
• Must be able to demonstrate experience of working in a project environment, preferably within an engineering or construction environment.
• Background of working in a customer-facing environment, demonstrating excellent communication skills with the ability to deal with contentious situations involving landowners and communities.
• Able to work under pressure, prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
• Confident in communicating with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external
