About the role
Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team is seeking an Assistant Project Manager - OHL to support the delivery of our YYM project in Newbury. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of a major infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage project resource mobilisation, ensuring all personnel competence, development, and training needs are identified, addressed, and RAG-reviewed to support on-site readiness.
- Develop and deliver onboarding training programmes for new project personnel and professional development initiatives for internal team members.
- Manage the Project Development Engineer and Project Coordinators, overseeing business-as-usual activities, including access reporting and the maintenance of a 200km access network and 80km of public roads.
- Oversee team budget, tracking monthly spend for identified activities and profiles, including Traffic Management, Security, Site Development, Change Management (GS6), and Water Sampling of Private Supplies and Identified Water Courses.
- Ensure consistent, standardised delivery of projects on time, to budget, and to quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement in project management processes, reporting, and setup during project initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and handover/close-out.
- Provide general support to the project management team as required.
What you'll be doing
Governance & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate project records and digital briefcases.
- Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders.
- Collate information and complete applications in line with project requirements.
- Follow Balfour Beatty processes and procedures, providing updates for informed decision-making.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Promote Zero Harm, monitor legislation changes, and lead safety initiatives.
- Conduct Safety & Environmental Tours, review RAMS, and accept subcontractor RAMS.
- Lead accident/incident investigations and maintain a live H&S plan.
Analytical Thinking & Decision Making:
- Resolve complex problems and negotiate effectively at all levels.
- Coordinate project activities, identify risks, and manage resources efficiently.
Resources & Development:
- Manage engineers, project coordinators, and training advisors.
- Support talent development, mentoring, and internal training.
- Develop and maintain resource allocation plans.
Procurement & Supply Chain:
- Assist in managing subcontractors and ensure contractual compliance.
- Monitor contractor progress and provide guidance as needed.
Quality & Compliance:
- Conduct audits and follow up on actions.
- Undertake site visits to ensure compliance with client and landowner requirements.
Digital & Data Management:
- Promote consistent and reliable digital data to support project delivery
Who we're looking for

- Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the
organisation - Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at
all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence - Able to undertake work in high pressure situations with a flexible attitude
- A record of a solutions-based approach to problem solving
- Experience of managing and working with numerous teams at one time.
- Organised and able to manage a busy workload.

- Valid Driver's license.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- E xperience of working on a variety of project types
- Proficient on O365
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:
- Holds or working towards a formal further education qualification in business
or project management/construction or experience equivalent
