Senior Associate (6+ PQE) - Litigation / Commercial Disputes and Claims (Commercial Litigation)

JOB PURPOSE

This is an opportunity to join a growing team providing legal support to a diverse client base, with the opportunity to develop specialisms in commercial dispute resolution, litigation, arbitration, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
In the commercial litigation sphere, the team has advised clients in relation to a wide range of commercial disputes and has been involved in a number of landmark cases in the Supreme Court, Court of Session (particularly in the Commercial Court) and Sheriff Court in addition to a significant track record of international arbitrations.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to deal with both Scots and English law governed disputes.
You will provide advice and representation in contract disputes representing corporates, with a particular focus on the Energy sector. The successful candidate will be involved in corporate disputes, international arbitration, and commercial mediation.
In this role, you will be working with corporate clients, professionals and high net worth individuals.
As part of this role, you will also play a key role in the growth of the business by building and maintaining effective client relationships and supporting business development initiatives.
The successful applicant will be expected to support the solving of commercial dispute problems for clients and be able to demonstrate a skill set for dealing with disputes in a fast-paced environment.

CORE TASKS

  • Providing advice to clients in relation to dispute resolution, always adopting a commercial approach
  • Working with a range of clients including corporate, professional and high net worth individuals
  • Assisting with complex and challenging issues with tight deadlines
  • Representing clients in courts and arbitrations including appearance work and drafting of pleadings
  • Actively seeking solutions through alternative forms of dispute resolution
  • Working effectively with other team members
  • Supervising and supporting more junior team members
  • Leading and motivating others to perform at their best
  • Keeping apprised of changes in law and developments in practice area
  • Working to understand the team's key clients, the sectors they operate in and the challenges they face
  • Taking responsibility for managing their own workload
  • Providing client advice in short timescales that is well presented and tailored to their needs
  • Maintaining regular contact with clients and demonstrating an understanding of the priorities for the client
  • Participating in business development activities
  • As required, assisting in on site investigation work and evidence gathering
  • Ensuring all cases we handle are well ordered and documented and all key information is available clearly within workspaces
