About the role
As an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) by contributing to major infrastructure projects during the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and pre-construction phases.
You'll help bridge the gap between business development and project delivery, ensuring a smooth transition into construction. Your focus will be on the successful execution of ECI and Stage One contracts for our key client, Scottish Power Transmission, managing projects from feasibility through to mobilisation and construction readiness.
- Location: Flexible - with project sites located across Glasgow, Fife, and South Edinburgh.
- Working Model: Hybrid - combining home, office, and site-based work depending on project needs.
- Flexibility: We welcome both full-time and part-time applications. We understand that the best people aren't always available full-time and are happy to explore flexible working arrangements.
What you'll be doing
- Act as a key support to the Pre-Construction Manager, serving as a primary contact for allocated projects and working closely with operational leads.
- Coordinate project deliverables from early feasibility through to final approval for construction mobilisation.
- Contribute to strategic planning that enables smooth progression from ECI to pre-construction and successful site award.
- Collaborate with the proposals team to ensure high-quality, timely bid submissions.
- Help define and communicate clear objectives across the pre-construction and ECI teams.
- Support compliance with CDM 2015 Principal Designer duties in partnership with Design Leads.
- Champion health and safety through early-stage design planning and proactive risk reduction.
- Apply Balfour Beatty standards and promote best practice across all assigned projects.
- Engage with teams across Power T&D, UKCS, and the wider Balfour Beatty Group to enhance delivery and share knowledge.
- Prepare and present progress reports, ensuring key updates are communicated effectively to stakeholders.
- Assist in resource planning to ensure projects are fully prepared for on-site delivery.
- Encourage innovation across pre-construction, design development, and planning activities.
- Support the adoption of BIM Level 2, 3D design tools, and CGI modelling where appropriate.
- Coordinate client deliverables and support regulatory submissions.
- Apply lessons learned across multiple projects to drive continuous improvement.
- Contribute to regional and company-wide initiatives, including MyC.

- Technical background in civil and/or electrical engineering within infrastructure.
