Job Description

Assistant Manager Level 1

  • Client Portfolio - ensure that clients receive an efficient and proactive service and client expectations are exceeded throughout the year. Liaising with Clients, Partners and other Evelyn Partner staff where appropriate to ensure all are kept up to date with relevant issues
  • Completing management and statutory accounts, including related services, and setting budgets - awareness of commercial aspects of clients' business and impact on our work. Arrangement of timetable, booking of staff, planning and completion of management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT returns and other related assignments
  • Business/Practice Development - preparation of proposals for new work, and development of opportunities for Evelyn Partners with current clients.
  • New Client Take On Procedures - assist Head with embedding new clients into Evelyn Partners and within the client and staff portfolio, including work schedules.
  • Training and development - supervising junior staff members and ensuring feedback is given to staff on a timely basis. Ensuring appropriate in-house & on-the job training received personally.
  • Client billing - attend to preparation of fee notes and fee covering letter for clients, in terms of the Business Outsourcing Services billing policy, for review by the relevant Associate Director, Director or Partner.
  • Assist the Managers with cash collection of outstanding debtors for clients in the portfolio in accordance with our Business Outsourcing Services cash collection policy.
  • Review and prepare monthly and quarterly Management accounts & related files.
  • Prepare and review unaudited statutory accounts & related files.
  • Review iXBRL tagged accounts once prepared by members of the team.
  • Ensure work performed by members in our team is in accordance with the processes and procedure manuals in place for the various services.
  • Support managers within the team with various administrative tasks and projects that arise from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic history.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA) or qualified by experience.

  • Accuracy - to ensure work undertaken by you and your team are correct.
  • Details - attention to detail is imperative for the smooth running of the workflow and portfolio.
  • Judgement - be able to assess a situation and reach a suitable conclusion based on the information available, both in terms of clients or staff.
  • Focus on Customer - develop relationships and gain confidence of client. Respond to client emails on a timely basis. Ensuring clients expectations are exceeded, by providing a first-class service at all times.
  • Use of IT - proficient user of Sage, QuickBooks On-line, Xero and Microsoft Office packages or ability to get up to speed on the software, as required.
  • Planning and organising - to ensure all client work is carried out within the appropriate timescales through continual monitoring of progression of the work. This must be managed and maintained with the current tools in place.
  • Technical expertise - to ensure accounts are produced to meet statutory requirements and VAT return issues are addressed or referred to the VAT department for their input. To be able to answer staff and client technical queries and make technical decisions.
  • Commercial awareness - to have a good understanding of the commercial factors affecting the client and to be able to monitor the commercial effectiveness of work done by S&W by reviewing costs against budget.
  • Teamwork - working as a team with the managers, Partners and staff to ensure the department as a whole meets its objectives and all client demands are exceeded.
  • Problem solving - technical knowledge to resolve client issues and organisation to be flexible to meet client and Partner demands.
  • Responsibility - taking responsibility for the portfolio & its' smooth running to ensure both clients and staff are happy.
  • Commitment & Reliability - to have the disposition to offer support to the managers, staff & partners to ensure no problems or issues arise along the way in embedding new clients into the portfolio - by going the extra mile where required.
