Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Under the leadership and direction of the Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director of Medicines Optimisation:

To lead, manage, develop and be responsible for the Clinical Pharmacy services across Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) to ensure that patients receive safe, high quality and clinically effective pharmaceutical care

To support the Chief Pharmacist in developing, in an innovative way, the overall strategy for the future clinical pharmacy services provision in NUH in a manner that reflects Trust, local and National Health Service strategy and priorities

To provide a significant supporting role for the development and implementation of medicines optimisation and pharmacy services across NUH through close workings relationships with other Assistant Heads of Pharmacy, Pharmacy General Manager and other members of the extended Pharmacy Leadership Team

As a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, to help develop a strategic vision and delivery plan for the NUH Clinical Pharmacy Department

To act in conjunction with other Assistant Heads of Pharmacy in taking delegated responsibility for the Chief Pharmacist in their absence

To act as a role model in clinical pharmacy practice including clinical teaching

To work collaboratively with partners across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS to strategically develop the practice of clinical pharmacy

The post holder will base their commitments equally between QMC and City campuses

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Registration as a Pharmacist with the GPhC
• Postgraduate clinical diploma/MSc equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Management/Leadership qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria

• Extensive previous Hospital Pharmacy experience (post-registration)
• Significant level of experience of delivering and leading clinical Pharmacy services, broad knowledge base of clinical pharmacy across a range of specialties.
• Experience of staff management, appraisal and performance management
• Recent experience in leading change management or transformation across pharmacy services

Desirable criteria

• National profile in Clinical Pharmacy practice

Communication and relationship

Essential criteria

• Good interpersonal and negotiating skills, ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, senior management and specialists
• Management, leadership and team-building skills
• Able to motivate and influence others through strong leadership and commitment

Analytical and Judgement

Essential criteria

• Ability to work alone and make decisions
• Understanding of issues affecting the NHS in particular clinical risk management
• Positive thinker, problem solver, ability to think laterally to develop new ideas

Planning and organisation

Essential criteria

• Organised, able to prioritise, able to meet deadlines
• Able to plan ahead, delegate and manage other staff including senior staff

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

• Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
• Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£42.90 for enhanced and £22.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
