An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant General Manager to join the Children & Young People's division at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will work to manage General Children and Young People's specialties and lead service improvements, alongside the Matron and Clinical Leads for services. The Children & Young People's division has the opportunity to plan an expansion of services and ward areas, and we are looking for dynamic individuals to help make lasting improvements to the care of children and young people. The postholder will have a large degree of autonomy, and opportunity to lead change and will work closely with the whole multi-disciplinary team to ensure services are delivered effectively and safely. They will form part of the senior leadership team within Children & Young People's Division and offer service, performance and strategic management as well as quality improvement expertise. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a commitment to improving children & young people's care through operational delivery and collaborative leadership. This role offers significant exposure to senior leadership across the organisation, the opportunity to lead on large scale projects management and career development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder's overall aim will be to provide visible and active senior service management support to the General and Adolescent specialties, and lead on projects/services within the and Young People's Division. This role will work closely as a triumvirate with Nursing and medical leaders in general and adolescent specialties, to improve service provision and will oversee budget management of over £5m, with over 150 clinical and non-clinical staff within these specialties. The post holder will offer both operational problem solving, senior project management and service improvement expertise. This will include engaging with all relevant clinical teams and support services internal to UCLH and with external organisations such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and other North Central London partners. One of the key elements of this post will be to provide senior operational support so that services/projects are clinically effective, safe and financially sound. Together with the leadership team, the post holder will take responsibility for the monitoring and delivery of key quality and performance standards and co-ordination of projects and initiatives within the unit to deliver against the standards. The post holder will be responsible for meeting divisional objectives and strategic corporate objectives of the organisation and will provide leadership and management support to staff within their areas of management.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent level experience

- Significant experience of managing staff
- Significant managerial experience in a large and complex organisation
- Proven experience in service improvement and development
- Proven experience in effective monitoring of national target compliance
- Proven experience in effective management of budget and effective leadership of staff
- A proven record of success in managing change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
Desirable criteria
- Proven experience in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of complex strategic & operational plans
