Job Description
We're looking for an Assistant Finance Manager to join the Defence Finance Team, within the Public & Industrial sector. You will report directly to the Finance Manager and support the growth of the Defence Business Unit within Wincanton and adds to the existing portfolio.
Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance prior to commencing employment, this includes providing 5 years of UK residence and employment/education history.

Day to Day
• Preparation of Monthly Sales Invoices to the customer
• Assisting with Ledger Account reconciliations aligned to the Management Accounts
• Preparation of period end accounts to ensure revenues and costs are captured and allocated accurately
• Undertake nominal ledger tasks including processing journals, nominal ledger cross charges and period end reconciliations
• Develop strong relationships with customers - both operationally and within the commercial function
• Reporting and monitoring of key performance indicators and non-financials to support service delivery and contractual commitments
• Balance sheet preparation including robust reconciliations to support balances
• Completion of monthly payroll reconciliations
• Completion of regular large operational reconciliations
• Supporting the Finance Managers with responsibilities across the wider Defence business
What will you bring?
- Studying towards the AAT/CIMA/ACCA qualification
- Experience of working with a finance software package or ERP package
- Transport/Logistics Industry experience preferred but not essential
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships at various levels
- Work to a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and promote healthy and robust financial controls
- Be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining high standards
- Be flexible and respond quickly and positively to internal and external stakeholder requests
- Have excellent IT skills and be able to understand and harness various systems to benefit the operation
- Have commitment, passion, and a progressive attitude for achievement
