Assistant Engineering Manager (Maternity Cover)

Job Introduction

The primary role of Assistant Engineering Manager focuses on the technical aspects of construction.

The role provides further opportunity to support the Engineering Managers within the section particularly that responsible for I&M, ground treatment, grouting and dewatering

The Assistant Engineering Manager will be responsible for a particular section of the project and will report to the Engineering Manager.

Role Responsibility

This role will principally cover the following areas:

Quality & Assurance

  • Mangaging the requirements of materials testing; liaising with the core materials team ensuring the correct tests are being undertaken in a timely manner for a particular section of the project, ensuring the results of testing are communicated.
  • Ensuring that the Material Compliance (MCR) process is being correctly managed between the construction/delivery, materials and QA team ensuring that only approved materials are used in the permanent works
  • Oversight of the production, review, approval and implementation of ITPs, which are produced by the construction team in accordance with the processes managed by the Quality team
  • Ensuring survey control is adequately managed, that the survey team is providing appropriate control stations, spot-checks and training to the construction team and that
  • Oversight of the construction assurance process, which is undertaken by the construction team in accordance with the processes managed by the Assurance team
  • Oversight of the handover process from construction to the client or other contracts, including H&S File production and risk registers

Design Integration and Change Control

  • Review of method statements and construction sequences to ensure full integration and recognition of constraints and specific requirements
  • Management of the interface between construction and design during the construction phase: review of key RFIs from construction to design, approval of proposed change to design following the Field Change process (as part of the management and control of change) and approval of any NCRs raised, including implementing measures to avoid similar non-conformances in future
  • Identifying any changes during construction that could have an impact on either the temporary works design or permanent works design and control of that change
  • Oversight of temporary works planning, coordination, design, installation, use and removal including review and approval of significant temporary works: their design and method statements
  • Produce management plans for specific works, required through change, that require engineering control to prevent damage or detriment or unauthorised change to the design or the works

The Ideal Candidate

  • Chartered (or near Chartered) member of the ICE or equivalent (essential)
  • Engineering or Design Management experience (essential)
  • Construction experience (essential)
  • (High speed) rail experience (desirable)
  • Temporary works experience (desirable)
  • Management of ground movement experience (desirable)

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
