Brief Description

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Engineer [Drainage & Off-Track], here in our Southern Region Asset Management Team.

Based at London Blackfriars, you'll play an important role in supporting the Principal Engineer to ensure the integrity and compliance of the railway infrastructure pertaining to vegetation management, drainage systems and boundary maintenance.

This role focuses on maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency and reliability across the region through rigorous assurance processes. As the Assistant Engineer, you'll assist in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of assurance frameworks and processes by conducting detailed assessments, compiling compliance reports and facilitating corrective actions in line with Network Rail standards and practices.

You'll have the opportunity to identify and develop new initiatives that improve the safety and efficiency of drainage, vegetation and boundary assets across the Southern region.
About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

• Assist with, the inspection and assessment of engineering assets in compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail company standards and procedures.

• Assist in the monitoring of trends of maintenance work undertaken, asset condition, asset failure and failure precursors to allow appropriate action to be specified.

• Assist in the evaluation of the output from inspections, examinations and assessments of asset condition to enable renewal/repair proposals to be formulated.

• Provide technical support in delivering Network Rail's goals with respect to activities.

• Proactively seek and obtain knowledge, skills and experience of railway engineering through a combination of working with senior colleagues, on-the-job training, formal training courses, personal research, and attendance at relevant meetings of professional and technical bodies.

• Prepare regular reports of progress on training and professional development for review by mentors, supervising engineers and other relevant persons.

• Pursue the achievement of core and specific objectives required by the post holder's approved training scheme, where applicable, in a timely and effective manner.

• Maintain a personal development plan and comprehensive records of initial and continuing professional development.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline

• Initial experience in Asset Management

• Understanding of relevant policies and standards

Desirable

• Member of a relevant professional institution
