Job summary

The Surgery, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Theatres Division is seeking an enthusiastic, committed and aspiring individual to join the management team within the Specialist Surgery Directorate covering Breast, Urology, ENT, Oral/Maxillofacial, Orthodontics, Plastic Surgery and Pre Operative Assessment.

This post is an excellent chance for the successful individual to gain substantial experience in operational management and leadership within this Directorate.

You must be a great people person, enthusiastic and diligent. You will support the Directorate Manager in the delivery of Outpatients, Elective/Non-Elective programme by ensuring excellent efficiency. You will be dynamic, positive and forward thinking with the ability to both work on your own initiative.

The role is full time 37.5 hours, permanent.

Main duties of the job

To support the Directorate Managers, providing leadership and accountable management for delegated tasks, services and other areas of responsibility, including strategic development of the services within the Directorate and to ensure the effective use of the Directorate's human and financial resources in pursuit of agreed Directorate and Corporate goals.

Job responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Directorate Managers and lead clinicians to ensure effective and efficient management of the services within the Surgical Directorate to meet access targets within the resources available.
  • Ensuring the services within the Directorate fulfil their agreed objectives and quality standards.
  • Reporting outcomes and progress towards all goals and objectives to the Directorate Management Team.
  • Representing the Directorates or its constituent services at Directorate, Divisional, Corporate Meetings or other forums as delegated by the Directorate Managers/Heads of Department.
  • Deputising for the Directorate Manager in his/her absence.
  • Monitoring and implementing Clinical Governance systems.
  • Assisting in the management and planning capacity and financial budgets.
  • Responsibility for budgets in designated areas.
  • Assisting in the production of Business Cases for service development and secure funding to support the strategic plan of the Division and to improve the services provided.
  • The post holder will actively monitor, analyse, interpret information and data, make recommendations and initiate implementation of service change and re-design across the whole Department.
