Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of study or specialist training to Masters level (or relevant equivalent experience)
  • Evidence of study or specialist training to Doctorate level (or relevant equivalent experience)
  • Wide up to date knowledge of national and local strategic direction and policy initiatives within the NHS and other public sector bodies, particularly in relation to the delivery of Older People's Mental Health services
  • Experience of conducting negotiations relating to highly complex matters with other senior managers both internal and external to the organisation
  • Evidence of experience of evaluating a variety of courses of action regarding clinical governance, risk management and service improvement
  • Responsibility for managing an expenditure budget which includes experience of financial management budget setting, monitoring and determining corrective action

Desirable criteria

  • Senior NHS Management experience including line management responsibility for multi-disciplinary teams
  • Effective internal and external stakeholder management and commissioning services and/or negotiation of contracts
  • Evidence of strategic management planning and achievements in highly complex management situations which may be emotive and contentious.

Essential criteria

  • Advanced skills in IM and IT tools and techniques to support reporting and analytical skillsdesirable requirements (1 - 10)
  • Able to think analytically, anticipating obstacles and thinking ahead. Uses analytical techniques to identify several solutions to the problem or issue
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally, adjusting language, style and content as appropriate to the audience, including highly complex, sensitive or contentious information where there may be barriers to understanding
  • Is people orientated without losing sign of the task; with an ability to manage the conflict between service priorities and staff and continue to influence, motivate and lead all grades of staff
  • Able to plan, prioritise, meet deadlines and manage own workload, dealing with peaks and troughs and competing/unpredictable demands whilst maintaining a high quality of work
  • Values differences; regards people as individuals and appreciates the value of diversity in the workplace

Desirable criteria

  • Sensitive to the needs of others and has an awareness and responsiveness to other peoples' feelings and needs; is able to communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information in hostile or confrontational environments
  • Willing to challenge traditional practices and win support from peers to new initiatives even in the face of resistance, by reconciling conflicts and applying rational thinking
  • Able to develop, establish and maintain positive relationships with others, both internal and external to the organisation; able to work effectively across organisational boundaries and maintain effective multi disciplinary working relationships particularly during change
