This role is varied and dynamic, aligned to our key priorities and strategy. However, typical duties you would expect include:
Responsibilities:
- Pillar operations lead will work with their Pillar Lead and Capability leads supporting them in the planning and execution of their strategic and operational priorities.
- In addition, Pillar operations lead will work closely with the M&A COO, other pillar operations leads and wider operational team to ensure that all pillars and capabilities across M&A are fully informed/aligned of the SRTA and firmwide recommendations/initiatives and asks, so we can proactively manage M&A when proposals are being discussed at the SRTA/firm-wide Executive/COO meetings. It is critical that the pillar operations leads are aligned and works closely and collaboratively to drive the overall M&A/SRTA/firm strategic priorities and to do this, the pillar operations lead will be responsible for:
- Operational leadership - building close working relationship with finance, HR, Learning, Growth business partners
- Key role in strategic execution - understanding the M&A, SRTA and firm strategies, assisting in the translation of these into pillar and capability strategies and driving the execution of these strategic priorities
- Efficiency and change - direct and execute key transformational change whether linked directly to the financial plans or the drive for greater efficiency and effectiveness, i.e. process improvements (this requires an in-depth knowledge and understanding of systems be it financial, risk, HR, recruitment, etc.
There are three key areas of responsibility being Operational, Financial Management & Oversight and People.
Operations: typical activities to include:
- Strategy development, implementation, monitoring and reporting
- Working with M&A COO to access the various supporting teams at SRTA/firm level - Growth, HR, Finance, QRM, Property Services, IT
- Ensure pillar partner and team adherence to firm policies and procedures and in particular risk management policies and procedures such as BRMS, travel & entertainment policies, etc.
- Represent your pillar for the M&A business optimisation initiatives e.g. Jason Richards's commercial and operational excellence plan, the profitability 'lever' group, workforce planning groups.
- Pillar leadership meeting organisation (comms) and support
- Supporting M&A take up of firm-wide/SRTA initiatives such as Global Delivery Model (i.e. ICC), Staff, IT, etc.
- Ad hoc projects (e.g. acquisitions, integrations, new business set ups or divestment)
- Co-ordinating communications cascades to the extent they are required at pillar level using viva engage as main channel.
- Input to M&A/SRTA decision making on matters such as new premises, IT systems, size and shape, etc.
- Partners - lead on the performance review of Equity and Salaried Partners including recruitment liaison with partner recruitment team, partners objectives (including the setting and review of financial targets and other targets) and partner year-end activities
Financial Management & Oversight:
- Development and management of financial plans from first cut to final sign-off, in line with agreed strategy
- Review and analyse financial reports, bringing insights
- Support and advise the M&A Operations lead and Pillar lead in financial decision making
- Reporting and monitoring KPIs, providing overall financial oversight
- Monthly financial and operational performance reporting, including close out month end
- Forecasting and ensuring M&A Operations lead and Pillar lead is fully appraised so that action can be taken
- Ensure that relevant financial data is shared as appropriate with pillar lead and partner group
- Supports M&A Operations lead and pillar lead in meetings to discuss performance and proposed areas for action
- Monitoring and escalation of cash drive performance issues working with wider operations team as appropriate
- Takes the lead role in proactively assessing 'opportunity' and 'risk' based on a thorough review of each L4's monthly financials. To include monitoring performance against plan/forecast to ensure that the business is at all time 'right sized' for the plan/forecast direct profit
- Work with Growth team to ensure that Growth financial MI on key sectors or key accounts to support the priority account penetration strategy
People:
- Strategy for recruiting, hiring and reward - ensuring aligning to M&A and SRTA guidance.
- Monitor headcount against plan/forecast, robustly challenge and provide approval (1st line) hiring requests and make recommendations. In particular ensure any offer packages are reasonable in the context of the business need and pillar commercials/affordability
- Shape of business and modelling and implement appropriate actions to deliver an improved business share in line with strategic priorities
- Support the development and execution of retention and engagement strategies
- Lead the reward process and decisions
- Support the development and execution of D&I strategies
- Review and follow up actions of Engage for Change

Essential:
- Operations lead must be 'intrapreneurial' - i.e. should constantly be on the lookout for ways to improve processes, reallocate assets (i.e. resources) and drive efficiencies in the pursuit of better performance and as a result, being comfortable with constant change is a given in this role.
- Highly developed communication skills (given the various stakeholders involved), team player, change agent, strategic and creative, excellent project management skills and ability to drive performance from all areas within their pillar;
- Be capable of building effective working relationship across multiple business areas, functions and geographies/cultures
- Be comfortable creative structure to meet objectives in an ambiguous environment, with limited information and to do so with the right strategic context
- Be able to multi-task and deliver simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-visibility setting is mandatory, and requires high degree of endurance, responsiveness and flexibility to work through multiple iterations of deliverables and quickly adapt to changing priorities/asks
- Have strong project and time management skills
- Ability to work independently under pressure with strong attention to detail
