About the role
Balfour Beatty is recruiting an Assistant Bid Manager to play a key role in securing future work. In this exciting position, you will help lead, manage, and co-ordinate the full bid process producing high-quality, competitive proposals that align with the Balfour Beatty Management System.
You'll work closely with customers, partners, internal stakeholders, and our work winning team to build strong, positive relationships and ensure our submissions stand out for all the right reasons.

What you'll be doing
- Build strong relationships with customers to understand their requirements
- Lead and coordinate bid presentations and attend key customer/industry events
- Manage bid processes, including governance papers, bid plans, programmes and documentation
- Contribute to technical, legal and financial content, and coordinate inputs from the supply chain
- Maintain document control, clarification logs and accurate meeting records
- Support supply chain and consultant selection where required
- Gather customer intelligence and conduct competitor SWOT analysis
- Develop innovative bid solutions using BIM and submission technology
- Ensure full compliance with tender requirements and promote best practice
- Engage with internal sponsors and steering groups, preparing Gate papers as needed
- Support tender settlement approvals and handover to operations
- Help maintain the Project Risk Register
- Demonstrate Balfour Beatty Values and maintain a focus on Zero Harm
- Support the delivery of Balfour Beatty's Sustainability activities
Who we're looking for
- Previous experience of managing bid services within the construction and engineering industry is highly desirable.
- Some understanding of the principles of framework procurement and experience within the most current forms of procurement is required.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as APMP/RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/MICE/MIStructE is desirable.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure. Customer centric in approach, with the ability to recognise potential opportunities in invitations to tender.
- A desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the relevant business. Good IT, maths and bid writing ability is a requirement.
