GENERAL SUMMARY
Working as part of the Operations Management team the primary role of the Assembly Manager is to lead the Assembly teams including the assembly fitters, painters and stores teams. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Assembly Manager is responsible for leading implementing our Vision, Tactical and Strategic Objectives. The Assembly Manager is required to help drive the team to excel in its delivery, quality, and profitability targets by ensuring that all jobs are manufactured to the appropriate quality standards, customer build specification and that the end-to-end manufacturing process is efficient, cost effective and on time.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implementing the Vision, Tactical and Strategic Objectives for all Assembly areas in line with corporate vision and strategies.
- Providing leadership across the Assembly teams to ensure they meet and exceed our operational KPIs, goals and objectives including reliability, operability, quality, customer care, OTD and cost effectiveness to meet the demands of our customers and target markets.
- Delivering both OE and AM Revenue Targets
- Providing and achieving our forecast - right first time, on time to our customers.
- Establishing and setting departmental/individual goals and objectives in alignment with site goals and priorities. Identify and implement performance improvement targets, metrics and plans in place to exceed expectations.
- Motivating, retaining and developing key employees through building sustainable employee engagement, creating a culture of execution and an environment within which individuals and teams can excel and continuously improve.
- Develop a robust succession plan for all levels in the site assembly team through a systematic approach to capability development and performance management.
- Creating and maintaining a positive high performing team environment.
- Customer & Supplier Management (when required) regarding quality, performance issues or Post Order activities
- Providing a customer focused approach throughout the Company; building and maintaining relationships future business development/growth, proactively promoting the Company.
- Overarching responsibility for all People Management activities including recruitment, performance management, discipline, developing, training, motivating and supporting all team members with the support of first line management and HR.
- Leading, driving and fostering a workforce and environment which complies with Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures and legislation.
- To work in accordance with the Departmental Interface Procedures in an efficient manner appropriate to the above statement.
- Effectively managing resource requirements ensuring any capacity constraints are actioned in a timely manner to ensure we meet our demands.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven track record of working as an Assembly or Operations / Manager / Business Leader, ideally within an OEM Manufacturer, with solid experience of supply chain management, manufacturing, and distribution.
- An experienced People Leader with proven leadership of large teams. Capable of making an engaging impact both on the shop floor and with Senior Management.
- Demonstrated experience of succession planning and growing internal talent is required.
- Financially astute with the ability to interpret and analyses site financial statements to identify and drive focused plans to improve cost and efficiency.
- Strong leadership background, with exceptional communications skills including ability to motivate and foster productive team environment.
- Leadership, a natural ability to lead people and always leading by example, the manager will be required to quickly command respect and loyalty even when making difficult decisions.
- Firm interpersonal skills, the Assembly Manager must be able to speak with employees, other department managers and senior management comfortably.
- Readiness to evaluate alternatives and solutions and make concise decisions even when all information required is not available.
- Capacity to manage change - identify problems, their causes and practical solutions
- Critical thinking and intellectual capabilities to analyse difficult business problems, getting to the root cause of the problems and generating workable solutions in line with objectives.
- Initiative and drive, candidate must have a willingness to initiate and drive until results are achieved.
- Ability to effectively manage their time and that of others. The Assembly Manager will face production deadlines, shipping dates and more therefore must prioritise accordingly.
- Strong awareness and experience in implementation of visual management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven track record of working as an Assembly/Operations Supervisor / Manager / Business Leader, ideally within an OEM Manufacturer, with solid experience of supply chain management, manufacturing, and distribution.
- Qualified with a degree in Engineering or Business Management or another related discipline as a minimum or suitably equivalent or time served with previous experience in a similar role.
