Salary: Grade K £53,630 - £56,840 per annum 'pro rata for part-time'

Nottingham City Council (NCC) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified individual to join the Development Management (DM) service area as an Area Planning Manager.

Nottingham is a progressive and pro-active local authority with strong ambitions for our city. This role is a great opportunity for planners wishing to grow their strategic planning experience.

Reporting directly to the Head of Development Management, the successful candidate will be one of two Area Planning Managers overseeing the delivery of the development management function in Nottingham city, both leading a team of up to 10 Planning Officers including graduates and Enforcement Officers.

As a single-tier authority, NCC, as Local Planning Authority, has responsibility for both District and County level planning matters, with the service area handling over 2000 applications every year.

On a day-to-day basis the Area Planning Manager's duties will include (but not limited to):

  • Allocating planning workload to Case Officers including pre-application advice
  • Signing off applications that have been determined using delegated powers
  • Aligning planning with strategic policies and procedures
  • Reviewing and approving Committee reports
  • Presenting applications at Planning Committee
  • Facilitating cross-partnership working with other NCC planning teams including Policy, Heritage and Urban Design and GIS
  • Offering planning advice and guidance to Councillors and other internal colleagues
  • Negotiating S106 agreements
  • Embedding planning reforms within the DM function including Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Managing your teams HR functions, including objective setting, check-ins and performance reviews

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a degree in a Planning, Urban Design or Architecture related subject and be eligible for membership of a relevant professional organisation i.e. the Royal Town Planning Institute) RTPI.
  • be able to demonstrate significant experience of working on a wide range of major developments and regeneration projects within an urban environment.
  • be a self-starter and be able to keep up to date with planning reforms from central Government including changes to planning related guidance, regulations and legislation
