Area Manager - Elgin Pig Breeding Herd

The Role

To have responsibility for the Continuous Improvement in farm production & weaner cost of production of assigned Breeding Herds, whilst always adopting the Sofina Core Values of Integrity, Respect & Accountability. Within this role you would responsible for the health and welfare of live pigs on the Breeding Herd's within your control using the standards set out by the company in the policy and procedure manual.

Salary Range: £36,000-£40,000

Duties Include:

• Assist in identifying solutions to problems & guide Unit Managers and farm staff in their implementation.
• To oversee assigned Breeding Herds to ensure compliance with the Karro Breeding Herd Manual.
• To liaise with Unit Managers to maintain bio-security of herds & implement a timely intervention to prevent any risks that may compromise herd health and this to be reported to Breeding Herd Manager as soon as possible.
• To be responsible for mentoring, training & developing of all staff on assigned Herd's
• To manage the farm staff resources including holiday booking, holiday cover and any absence cover.
• To be responsible for staffing matters within the farms and working with farm managers regarding recruitment, training, performance, and disciplinary issues.
• Ensure accurate and timely recording and management of weekly straw usage within stated targets.
• To analyse performance against targets, highlighting areas for improvement and implementing actions accordingly.
• Maintain farm compliance to RSPCA Assured, GAP & QMS Standards and close out any corrective actions.
• To actively promote a positive culture towards Health & Safety within the farm teams.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Previous experience working with livestock is essential.
• Previous experience in a supervisory role is essential.
• Excellent communication & team-working skills.
• Strong negotiator.
• Natural decision-maker, able to exercise judgement & take responsibility for actions & decisions.
• Determined & resilient, with the drive to complete tasks.
