Summary:

The role of a Project Manager is to manage the planning and delivery of construction projects. A Project Manager ensures that work is completed on time and within budget. They organise logistics, delegate work, provide contract advice and manage project teams. An integral part of Project Management is communication and stakeholder engagement; it is the responsibility of the Project Manager to keep the client informed of project progress and to effectively manage any risks, and delays.

Your Apprenticeship:
As an Apprentice Project Manager, you will spend 4.5 years completing the Chartered Surveyor degree apprenticeship. As part of this programme, you will be working towards your BSc degree and your professional qualification: Chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The first two years of the programme will be spent enrolled on the Apprenticeship pathway of the G&T Chartership Academy to ensure you can relate the theoretical aspects of your studies to your on-the-job experience. Moving into year three, you will join our industry leading Graduate pathway of the Chartership Academy where your APC structured training will begin.

Role Overview:
Working within a team, you will be assisting your Line Manager with various aspects of daily work. You will be learning about the firm, the work we do, the sectors we work in, the projects we work on, and the wider industry.

Alongside developing your technical knowledge, you will be guided by the professionals in your team to gain valuable on the job experience to support you in your studies and final assessment. You will gain valuable experience working in a business environment and will be developing your communication skills as well as becoming familiar with the processes and procedures relevant to your role as a project manager.

The role will be varied although the actual experience gained will be dependent on the team and sector you are working in. You will spend an allocated amount of your time each week dedicated to your university studies alongside others in your apprenticeship cohort.

General Responsibilities

In conjunction with your line manager, the role will typically include the following:

  • Working towards becoming a professional with expert knowledge of leading teams within a construction project
  • Working in the office or collecting information from visits to buildings, land and construction sites
  • Managing work tasks relating to the project/s, writing reports, and assisting with the preparation of tender documents, contracts, and other project documentation
  • Attending site meetings - depending on stage of project either design team meetings or progress meetings with the contractor and project team
  • Providing clear & concise meeting notes by developing your minute taking skills
  • Providing support to other project managers that help them implement project goals, quickly and accurately
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of action plans to enable proper time, resource and process management
  • Liaising with project leads and other project managers to maintain the schedule and project efficacy
  • Coordinating with project managers and other project leads following project execution
  • Developing project briefs along with selecting, appointing and coordinating the project team
  • Collecting and recording information relating to projects for technical use

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • A Level BBB (or equivalent) /128 UCAS tariff points (or an equivalents level of attainment through recognised qualifications)
  • Must hold 5 GCSE's A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSE grade 4 or above)
  • Good working knowledge of current IT systems
