An opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, motivated, woman centred, Band 7 midwife with leadership and managerial skills to work as the Antenatal Services Ward Manager based at Leicester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced midwife, who is able to role model, lead by example and provide first line managerial support.

You will be part of a well-established Outpatient midwifery team, which consists of the Antenatal clinic service.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours) - the working pattern is over 5 days Monday to Friday with hours compressed over 4 days available.

An Enhanced DBS with Adults' & Children's Barred List checks will be obtained during pre-employment checks.

Main duties of the job

As a qualified midwife the post holder will be required to provide care and advice to women during pregnancy, and in relation to labour and the postpartum period. The post holder will also provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to Midwifery and Support staff in the delivery of evidence-based client centred care.

The post holder will have clinical responsibility and be an expert in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in pregnancy.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust Policies and Procedures maintaining contemporaneous and accurate records. By utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources/ funding.

Be a visible, accessible, credible and assertive leader to whom women, relatives and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support.

Lead the team and build successful links between midwifery and other professions to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.

Lead and support the team through the process of change, demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance and perspective.

Develop the role of other team members, supporting them in gaining the appropriate competencies to achieve the required standards of care.

Motivate all team members and lead innovation and expertise in clinical practice by example.

Take responsibility for ensuring that all learners in their area are appropriately supported and competently assessed in line with new NMC guidelines and other professional bodies.

Through effective communication, disseminate information across the health care teams and directorates.

Communicate and share clinical experiences and good practice within and across directorates.

Resolve conflict as speedily as circumstances allow and ensure feedback and planning for the future occurs.

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Midwife with evidence of CPD
  • Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of Post registration continuing development

Desirable criteria

  • Clinical Leadership Programme

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates good understanding of clinical governance
  • Evidence of innovation and achievements in clinical practice
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical risk management

Desirable criteria

  • Audit experience/research skills
  • Experience of Patient and Public Involvement in Service Delivery
  • Development of multi- disciplinary working practices

Leadership and Education

Essential criteria

  • Acts as a clinical role model and support for all multi- disciplinary learners within the ward or area
  • Lead and co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of successful change management
  • Project management

Resource Utilisation

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates understanding of efficient and effective use of resources where the workload can be unpredictable
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritise and implement and use new ways of working

  • Knowledge of budgetary management

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
